Don't even know if I spelled it correctly, but whatever. :p

Where can I find out about tatoos....e.g. price, sizes, where I can have them, the different ones available? Is it possible to get custom tatoos? Are there any respectable tatoo parlours or are they all owned by fat women called dave?

Thanks muchly.

Where to start ....

First thing is do you have any locla friends who have had a tattoo done and you TRUST that friend ? Recommendations from people you trust are the best way to find a decent tattoo shop near you.

Once you've done that then the rest should fall into place, unless your friends were lying ***** :p. If the artist is any good he'll be happy to discuss any custom design you have in mind, and be honest enough if it's beyond his abilities or just not his style.

I had this done a few years back now. Found the place (near Waterloo Station IIRC) via a friend who'd had a lot of work done. Later when I went along to let the guy photograph the 'settled in' work for his collection (and to check if it needed any touching up) he was quite happy to spend about 20 minutes chatting with the friend I'd taken along about her ideas for a tattoo, and was honest enough to admit his style of art didn't really fit it.

So, first thing we need to know is where you live :).

Yeah, I picked the studio I got mine done in on word of mouth recommendations. They have three artists, who together specialise in most of the common tattooing styles (tribal, celtic, oriental etc), and most of the weirder stuff too.

I'd go with a studio which is appointment only...don't get tattoos done on a walk-in visit (walk-in, ask for a tattoo, get a tattoo). This gives you time to nervously think if what you are doing is right for you.

Think as much as you can about your design, and bring in reference pictures if you have any.

And you need to be over 18. Though I'd wait till I was a bit older, since most people I know who go tattooed before 20 have got some crap stuff, swallows, Superman logos, Malboro Logos (really).

Yeh I would go with the above :)

You have to really think about what you want, why you want it and where. Dont forget you have this for life, I know you can now get them removed although that also leaves a scar!

I have two and got them done when I was 19 and 20, wish I would have waited a bit longer and then decided, but still I like my tattoos. But think and think long :)

Will it affect your job where you have it? Will you be ok to wear short sleeves if you have it on your arm? Think about everything.

Also we aint trying to put you off, just trying to make you think :)

My mate got a tattoo when he was 16, it was of the Pepsi logo, he got it on the Saturday and Pepsi changed their logo on the Monday. Oh how I laughed.

:) Aint Pepsi had the same logo since the 80's? If you look at Back to the Furture the logo is similar

I live in Hounslow so Central London is only a trains journey away. I wanted to get something like a white wolf on the back of my arm, below my shoulder.

Does anyone know websites with more information? I tried google but it gives loads of german stuff.

If your date of birth in your profile is correct, you'll have to wait until next year before you can legally be tattooed.

People say I look 18...couldn't I get away with it? A few months wouldn't make much difference. :(

The studio should ask for ID if they aren't sure. As a mod, I'm not supposed to say "Go do it" though.

Though I'd recommend waiting until you are totally sure of what you want. Spend the time before your birthday gathering pictures which are similar to what you want done, and refining the design.

I absolutely guarantee you will hate whatever you get now in ten years time. So at least get something done that will be easily covered up again with something you like. Thats my advice for what its worth.

Near london is a good thing, we have some of the best tattoo artists in the world living and working here.

uk.people.bodyart information
is a good uk resource and if you go onto the usenet group there will be a lot of reccomendations. Personally I'm looking to get Rob at Living image to do my next work as IMO he is probably the best tattoo artist working in london at the moment. New wave tattoo and Into you are both exceptionally good too. The main thing is finding someone good who will also be able to do the style of work you want, personal reccomendations are a must.

No, any tattoo artist who is any good and any reputable studio will turn you away and will require ID. Best to wait and go to someone decent. If you really want it it's worth the wait.

Dmw, I hate you. :p

I'm fairly sure of what I want, and its in a place under clothing so I doubt I will regret it. :)
I don't want to wait though. :(

If I had a tattoo when I was 18 I would hate it now, and that's only 3 years down the line. I can't say I'd personally consider a tattoo to be honest, but it looks almost like your rushing in to it if you can't wait a few months. How many times have you thought something looked really cool and then the next year hated the sight of it? And what about when you go swimming, or to a beach or something (unless your getting it on your arse, in which case do wtf you want :D )

Used to be dead sure I never wanted a tattoo, but I changed my mind 2 years ago and had one on my upper right arm.

I don't regret it now, and I doubt I ever will. And they're addictive - the only thing that's stopping me from getting the next one done is lack of funds :(
