am forming a tank only guild in order to make rvr a bit simpler. imagine a line of tanks actually moving as one in a charge rather than 2 running to enemy and the rest thinking " i will guard the healers" etc.

send me ingame if you into this idea.

Ever hear of combined arms? This game's designed so the whole is a lot stronger than the sum of the parts.

All tanks = dead meat to casters who can blast them at range

All casters = target rich environment for stealthers or tanks who managed to close with them somehow

All stealthers = good for a bit of light RP farming but dead if anyone pins them down a nd brings them to battle

Now a balanced force with casters for ranged attacks, tanks to guard the casters and charge at the right time for a decisive punch, stealthers to scout and harass the enemy and naturalist classes as force multipliers (strengthening the other types and neutralising enemy strength with bard mez, warden PBT etc) - that's how to win. You want to make things simpler - make sure people know their jobs and do them. Know who the leader is, and follow his commands - and not anybody else's. A charge works if you know that the other tanks are charging alongside you and you're not going out alone to be slaughtered, so you have to know and trust the guys with you.

Basically, you need a regular RvR team, or a good guild. But it had better be a balanced one.

Ever seen the closing sequence from Dad's Army (legendary British 70s TV sitcom for those not familiar)? Where all those doddery old men are charging across a field very slowly with shells exploding all around them.

Well that's what a tank-only RvR group would look like charging. Plodding across the battlefield, making a nice line of freshly crisped corpses as they got roasted by nukes while trying to make contact with the enemy.

Tanks need support classes. Support classes need tanks. It's kind of a symbiotic thing.

anyone here go on a guild only rvr raid? cant imagine there are many.
my point was to have the tank only guild allied to other guilds to make war easier. i guess its easier to flame than consider positive aspects of this idea.

Given that the only information people had to go on was ur origional post i cant see how u can can blame anyone fer the replies

Yes most guilds do guild only raids on aweekly basis (not daily but there not rare, RvR and PvE)

Clearer now u actually said it, re-read ur origional post from our perspective (non mind reading, no assumptions)

Oh I dunno, that time Hib did that stealth zerg 3fg of stealthers were quite happy ripping up 4fg of EoO and 3fg of SotL ;)

Of course there were a few issues with resing our dead afterwards :)

Good idea.

but...

The only way massive amounts of tanks would actually be effective in RvR is if collision detection was in action......and it isn't.

Keep up the good ideas though :) Hibernia needs people like you.

I would love to see collision detection between players in the game - imagine a real shield wall in operation. Shield walls were a standard tactic in the era of warfare that DaoC is loosely set in and it'd really add a cool dimension to the game. Of course, Mythic's coders would have to lift a few fingers to implement it (which is why mobs and players don't have collision detection) plus there's some issues with only being able to block enemies and not friendly players (easily solved) and also probably some modifications needed to terrain to prevent obvious choke points (a shield wall zerg at a mile gate would be a nightmare).

Nice idea about the tank-only-guild though =o) Maybe make a sister-guild as caster-only-guild, and make it an alliance? Would be easy to know where to find the players to team up with.

And they would have res capabilities... Warden = Tank =o) But yes, they would be dependant on casters in RvR. But nice to know exactly what guild to go to when tanks is needed hehe.

And the players with collision detection would be quite messy. With all the players having different lag, it would require very good network latency for it to work. One could simply lag past a wall like that, and it would open for exploits of bandwidth modifiers etc. in my opinion =op

Tanks aren't good by themselves...

They've no speed, resistances, buffs.

Fully buffed tanks with support classes (speed, pbt, buffs, damage shields, resistances) are as sick as you can get though :)

Well, there are some champions and heroes... but much of my guild's melee power lies in the true fighters of the emerald realm.

Shame Celtic Dual sucks even more than Dual Wield

(there's actually some benefit to 50 DW)

roll on light tank balancing :)
