yup - got my vote Brooky.

Sometimes its hard, but unless you have kids of your own (imho) shut the fuck up about how to raise them.

Mine are 10 and 5 - and they play outside, but we live in a quiet area and they know where they can and cant go.

Better to teach kids limits than cage them up in the house.

I do have kids of my own. One two year old and one due at the end of July so maybe i don't know shit.

As i said earlier i was harsh on brooky and this thread has gone way off the topic.

My experience is as follows:

I privately rent a house on a council estate (cheap rent) which has a bit of a reputation. The kids on the estate are kicked out of there parents house in the morning and not allowed back in until a certain time at night. When it rains there parents chuck coats out the door to them. Sometimes there are 8 year old kids still out playing football in the dark at 10pm!!!! and I have seen a two year old left in the care of a ten year old.

These kids have no respect for anyone elses property. They thought it was acceptable to set up a goal in our front garden!!!! One even came into our back garden for a look around. I have seen them smash down peoples fences to save climbing over them to get their balls back.

Why are these kids like this? Because there parent can't be arsed to bring them up. 2 of the 8 year olds have been held back a year in school maybe rather than kicking them out of the house every night and all weekend maybe they should spend some time with them teaching them things through play etc..

I agree that kids should be allowed to mix with other kids and play outside. Thats why houses have back gardens, the power of speech allows people to invite other people kids around to play & schools exist. Parents could also take their kids to the park to socialise with other kids.

I guess what i am trying to say is all i see these days is people having kids but not willing to put the time in with them. How are kids supposed to grow up knowing the difference between right and wrong if they are getting the majority of their education from other kids who don't also have any guidance from their parents. You cant deny that kids get worse and worse behaved as the years go on and that can only be down to the current parenting culture.

This may or may not be Brooky and i was wrong to make the guess that it was. Apologies again.

Rubric,

My comment wasnt having a go at you directly. What riles me is folk with the "I have no kids, I wont want kids" telling parents how they should / should not raise their kids

Sorry if that wasnt clear.

As i have said before in the old barrysworld forums, i'm am a sort of an intelligent chav, i was brought up on a council estaet like the ones Rubric mentioned in his previous post, but my mum and dad (and grandma and grandad) taught me values, i got my brains from my dad and through school and books (i refer you to my thread "Whats your google") i learnt to rise above my chav area upbringing, my other brothers (i have one older and one younger) both work in the IT industry, i am a chav done good, i don't mind admitting that and tbh we all have a bit of chav in us, but i want more for Jake than i had/have, the chav kids aspire to be like their parents, down and outs who scrounge from the state and commit nothing to the country, the kids that the chavs have are on a hiding to nothing, so the underclass will just get larger in population.

I just want my son to be able to have as much of a childhood as he can before he gets brainwashed by High School.

Sounds familiar. I was brought up in what was thought to be the roughest estate in my home town a place called Tower Road in Lancing.

Trouble is my striving to do better for my kids led to a huge heap of debt which resulted in me being made bankrupt, losing my career at a large financial company because of it and ultimately ending up on a similar estate to my parents only probably worse :)

Lifes a bitch tbh trouble is its all me own fault. My last IQ test said 129. What a load of crap.

My guess is that by the time we die, we'll have bots writing our posts for us. So nobody will notice.

Yes, and I apologise to all if my own comments in this thread seemed frivolous.

Thanatos was a true hero amongst us, and a very sad loss indeed :(

Oh, not to say that there aren't those that have fallen far too early in life, [CL] Chamma being the one that springs to mind straight away.

Just thought that we all can't live forever....
