Suppose you could call it a general pimp, but it was a damn good set of games while it lasted :) 6 matches in 1 evening

The main aim of all this was to make sure you were all aware that this kind of stuff is going on. There's several levels of gameplay in T2, as I'm sure you're aware, Pubbys, Mixed Scrimms, and formal matches on Ladders. Unfortunately, BW doesn't have a T2 league at the moment, so sometimes its difficult to keep in touch. I'd love to see another BWTL or BWT2L, [Fergie, are you listening m8? :touch: ]
So rather than peeps get the impression that theres nothing going on, and leaving for a different game, I post :)
All of the current T2 classic scrimms etc are being organised via #t2.classic If you want more than just a pubby, come along :)

the barrysworld rented servers (ours at least, the Electric Mayhem one) seems to have a lot of packet loss lately and flag warping:/

a new bwt2l would be cool unless it required barrysworld subscription fees.

We [DT] have a slight config problem, requiring rebooting after peeps leave the server, which is being looked into. As for gameplay, nps there :)
The problem with requiring subscriptions for a new BWT2L is the chicken and egg syndrome again.. I wouldn't have any problems with this, so long as we were guaranteed a league. But you can't do that without the players [subscribers].

It's an awkward situation. I hope someone at BW comes up with the answer..

It would be good if BW could for one night, divert all the bandwidth for the unused servers and make a special massive server open to the public.
u could run popups n spam messages for the noobies like
-Subscribe to BW- only £12 -

most people dont know that barrys is p2p, they think its just dead and gone. a bit of publicity wont do any harm, and wots better than cramming a shit load of people on to a server and having a laugh?

I loved the megagame, it was great fun. where else could u get 15 kills in one bomber pass over a vpad?
on occasions the teams would do something very odd and start working together. havoks with escorts, full of fattys spamming flares and mortars, each team constantly fighting to keep hold of hold the bases, and each others flags...

i needs sleep me thinks, played to much
dsl is great

they wont do that tho because If they did that they would have to do it for other games too as other games communities would start going "but they got".
They are also run by what i term the "dollarmen" now who arent really interested in the gaming community but money instead. Barrysworld gaming just happens to be the product they sell and I dont think they really care how they manage to sell it as long as they do, the problem is right now though that they arent selling it as most people just use free servers, from gsp's who havent abandoned the online gaming community yet.

I also think they want to save bandwidth, so theres no point in them running the odd free server every so often as it would put their costs back up. To be honest i think they are looking for an excuse to drop some servers and save costs by claiming "but they arent getting used so theres no point keeping them".

They arent getting used of course because of the subscription fees.

I liked the bwtl league structure, however id sooner set up my own league than pay a subscription fee to play on empty servers and in a league with about 2 teams as their players would have to pay subscription fees as well.

It's positive, intelligent and informed opinions on the state of online gaming like that that make me glad to be a part of the community.

well I have yet to see evidence to the contrary.

The rentable clan servers are a great Idea and I strongly commend barrysworld for that, but the rest of it, well i can get it elsewhere for free or on better terms than i can here.

Hes mostly right though.

Ok so the BW team say "but look what you get for £1.00 a month"
"fast ftp service"
"webmail"
"acces to servers"
"webspace"

And everyone else sais..
"ya get that with your isp and the servers are free everywhere else"

Well im prepared to justify my reasoning here with what ive said, so ill go down the list of things barrysworld offer for this £2 or £1 a month and ill tell yas why i dont need it.

1) Bookable Servers (Making Bookings) - Only BarrysWorld Subscribers can make bookings on our Bookable servers. You can still challenge other clans, as anyone can play on a booked server.

^The Tribe im in rent a server, dont need the above

2) Public Servers - The games and mods Subscribers want to jump in for a quick blast, or even a chat. Cheaters will have their accounts suspended, so you can be sure of a fairer game

^No one uses the Barrysworld tribes 2 public servers, no point in playing on them, anyway its better to switch the clan server to public mode as I would have admin there anyway. BF1942 is pretty fun, but ill just jump on a blueyonder server where ill get about 19 ping with my blueyonder 1mb cable connection

3) Hosted Sites (While stocks last) - PHP and a MySQL database for Subscribers to build a site for their team, clan or favourite obsession.

^Right now, for one of my sites i pay £30/month for 2gigs of space and 100mysql databases under my own .com name (not euro-morrowind, another site im in the process of developing). A small site of the stature being offered is not really any use to me at this juncture, id just set it up as a hosted site of my own domain.

4) Public FTP - Subscribers get fast access to our FTP server to grab those essential patches and demos. Those Subscribers on an ISP we peer with also get to use our super-fast FTP!

^I dont bother with demos and If I want a patch ill usually grab it from a link on the official site. I will definately be able to find the file im after eslewhere on the net, and rarely will the download speed be pathetically slow.

Email Accounts - Those of you lucky enough to have your very own BarrysWorld email address already can keep them, but we're only giving out new accounts to Subscribers.

^I have a great e-mail account, it has editor@ on it what makes me feel warm and fuzzy, dont really need another one. My current e-mail is also my established one, why would i drop it and use a barrysworld one instead. What possible use could i put a barrysworld e-mail account to?

BarryLogon - A handy little utility for your Windows system tray that allows you to logon to our Network and see all our game servers. Quick and easy.

^My system tray is clogged up with enough junk as it is, this is a bit of a deterrant more than anything else, although if you want to operate barrysworld the way it is at present its probably a necessity. This utility isnt something thats going to increase my enjoyment of gaming its just a utility that makes barrysworld operate, I would strongly hope that it included no spyware components or irritating adverts considering that i would have had to pay to use it.

Personal Forums (coming soon) - Your own forum, with a password if you want, without having to run your own website.

^I have half a dozen of my own personal forums, one of which has over 2100 subscribers, who didnt have to pay for it, thats plenty to keep me busy.

So as you can see, the only barrysworld product thats actually any use to me, unless I suddenly develop a desire to play on empty servers, or all other GSP's decide to charge for access to "public" servers, is actually the clan rentable servers.

things are not going to change. I would have thought that by now i would be able to join at least 1 populated p2p server per night. As it is i am lucky if i see anymore than 10 people per week.

I dont understand why game have done nothing towards promoting or selling the subscriptions. It must be so easy to setup time limited accounts, they should give away free 1 month trials with new games. BF42 would have been the best start for this as its a new ish game...

but i just play games... wot do i know

Didnt everquest and all that sorta genre come with a free months trial to get people started?

Think it worked not sure.
Good idea tbh = wont happen.

Mind u there is a flaw there.
A lot of people will buy 1 game a month.

Doesn't matter the profits all go to the same company at the end of the day.

I think you guys should cut BW a little slack tho. TBH I think they will wait until Barrysworld changes to Game.Net.

Seems pointless marketing BW when it is going to be re-branded soon.

Thing is i would sub *if* i could get a game at times.
A change of name aint gonna do anything, Barrys run the most well known, probably most respected leagues out there, if no-one knows who they are by now they aint gonna sign up cos there called game.

back to the subject of a league though, it would probably bne possible to set one up between us if theres anyone else with enough motivation and a server or 2 we could use along with the EM one. Ive got the webspace and bandwidth to make a site, and can no doubt find a league script or something to help set it up quickly without writing one from scratch.
