System failed CPU test

Got a black screen of Death on my second machine, keeps teling me "System failed CPU test".

It´s a P4 2,8 Prescott CPU on an Asus P4P800dlx, 2 Gig DDR400 RAM and a GF6800.
The entire system was running perfectly smooth for over 4 years (minus the gfx card, which I plugged in just a couple of weeks ago).
Power supply unit is strong enough.

Some heavy googling revealed that it might be almost any unit from Mainboard to CPU to power supply to batteries.

Any ideas on how to find out WHICH unit is broken (except replacing them all one by one that is?)

If you've got a spare motherboard, test the CPU out on that. The error says it's a CPU fail, so that's the first place to look. Can also test out RAM on Mobo too.

If you've got the manual, check the voltage settings then go into bios and make sure they're correct (if not - change them)

Else, CPU is fried.

If u can get it to work for a while, u can turn on 'ignore error on post' in bios on asus motherboards, to let it work til u replace/fix the problem, it could be just the fact its detected an error, rather than the error itself, thats preventing startup, been getting memory errors on mine for a while now, even though system works fine, no problems, narrowed fault to 1 dimm, upgraded the ram, and still get errors
