All the feedback ive bin getting has been very confusing i must admit but im thankful for it. New memory will be here tmoz hopfuly thats shud cure it and this dragging thread can be closed
The PF usage of memory was exceeding 1gb so am i rig in saying it goes to 'virtual memory' and maybe thats y it crashes? ive orderd anotehr 1gb ram today so hope ive done right thing
If windows runs out of physical ram, yes it switches to virtual by "swapping" some memory pages to your hard drive, and "swapping" back when it needs some. Not likely to be the cause of crashing unless you have faulty ram / HDD. Certainly can cause lagg whilst Windows swaps memory about.
For my system, 1Gb is enough, and after zone loads the hard drive shuts up. Only hear it doing things when new graphics / zones are loaded.
2Gb will not hurt, but may not solve your problem.
Well when i play Counter Strike Source the PF usage doesn't exceed the capacity and never crashes/Lags... also when i play daoc i nvr get any lag at all, maybe the slightest delay if the domain is downloading somthing. Ive ahd 2 HDD's in this system as well and both seem to do the same thing. they are both 30gb Maxtor 7200 hDD's i think.
