Is it really that bad? Even seen adverts on TV, warning about it. Just seems like the media have nothing better to do, not as if any wars in iraq have ended or anything.

First stage of a zombie invasion imo.

Its nothing to worry about at all. I couldn't find the figures for the UK but for the US there was lots of information.

In the US roughly 36 000 people die a year from NORMAL flu, or if you average it over the year, around 100 people a day. It is estimated that around 5-10% of the population get flu each year, most just stay in bed for a week or so however a small minority die. Most of these people are old or have a weakened immune system. So in comparison swine flu is nothing to worry about.

Another important point is that bird/swine/hyped up media flu is a virus. A virus needs a host to survive in. If a virus kills people quickly then it will have less chance to spread. This means that viruses tend to get less deadly over time and become more like the common cold, very easy to catch but it only slows you down for a few days.

As long as you have pretty good hygiene it shouldn't really affect you too much :)

Wohaa hang on there. This is one nasty bug. No-one has any immunity to it as it is so new. Old people, babies and other vulnerable parties are at a huge risk from this flu virus. If you are fit and healthy then no-doubt the risk is greatly lessened but that has always been the case with flu. It can be spread by coughing and sneezing and these bugs can fly anywhere and will stay active for a few hours. A sneeze in a crowded room and bang everyone has a very good chance of contacting it. Not nice.

Where did my first cousin and his wife go for holidays? You guessed it - Mexico. News of the virus hit the headlines about 3 days after they left for a 2 week vacation!

Lets not be picky now - no immunity is right. Vacines exist fair enough but immunity no. And as far as I understand it this new outbreak is different from previous in some way and is far more virulent.

Yes, exactly like the common cold...

Every year in the flu season a new strain evolves which (obviously i should add) no-one has immunity to and therefore spreads like the wind...

Er nope - you don't die from the common cold.

You don't, but old people and kids do.

edit: Oh wait, I thought common cold was also influenza, but influenza is still nothing new or scary, which was my point.

Ain't yu getting mixed up with the cold and flu? Old people and babies don't die from a cold. If this outbreak was a cold it would be called 'Swine Cold'. This is a flu virus and is far more potent than your average cold.

But was makes this one more special than what we see every flu season, except that its scary and mutated?

Lack of immunity. No one has any defence from it as it is an 'hybrid' strain. One that has somehow managed to mutate and is now able to be picked up by us humans. Prior to this pigs and other animals would get it but we wouldn't. Our bodies are completely open to the bugs which makes it far nastier than the usual flu virus's we get.

What? Lack of immunity? Obviously this is the same for the normal flu we see each year...

In a way yes. If you think of this outbreak along those lines but also consider that this is a stronger version than normal then that is about right. 'Normal' flu is a killer to the vulnerable but since this one is nastier the death toll could be far higher.

Also many 'old people' are vacinated again'st flu each year (not sure about babies). They haven't been for this outbreak hence they are wide open to infection.

They have to make new vaccines almost every year anyway, no difference this time. And how much more deadly is this one? So far its nearly impossible to say anything abouts its deadliness as we don't have enough data. So far 168 are dead in Mexico, out of a 2.5k REGISTERED cases (real number is higher). If data from the US is any indication 1 out of 250 have died. (from wiki). Sure it might be deadlier, but to me it doesnt look anything out of the ordinary, excepts its MUTATED.. and in the MEDIA!!!

What's with this old and alone lark? I am as fit as fuck, very intelligent, well read with plenty of interests. Being alone is the way I like it and always have. Big mistake to look for other people for your kicks or stimulation. Believe me it ain't hard for me to pick up a woman if I want one.

Only mistake I have made recently is to rejoin this forum, though maybe not come to think of it. I must thank TDC for not banning me and allowing me to see for myself who visits these forums. It is very evident to me now that I need to find another forum which caters for my age range and intellect. It is like posting on some damn school board here. Not your lot's fault but my own as you can't help being young.

Can't be arsed to get in an argument with you as I am at fault for being here. Still we live and learn eh. Well I do anyways.

Of course we're all going to die.
I've never heard of anybody not dying.

As for dying from the flu, then people die due to common flu all the time.

Well I do anyways.

It's very very evident you certainly don't by the fact you spread your delusions every time that you are "better" than people here and you are leaving,
But time and time again you come back here.

On topic;
No point worrying about it, as said above if you have good hygeine there isn't much else you can do (within reason)

If you work in london you are probably going to catch it at some point as most people use the trains and/or tube

Get any woman you want? So you actually believe that your Thidranki poems and fagget guitar solos will actually get you anywhere? Well sir, I must inform you that you are not as bright as you might think

This is where my intelligence shows and where yours is blatently lacking. Thidranki poems and fagget guitar solos (nice spelling by the way) are just fun. Where the hell are they supposed to get me? Haha another brilliant observation. God no wonder I drove you lot bonkers as you are so lacking in insight and pure brain power it is remarkable. M8y you haven't got what it takes to take me on in an argument. You will smash your computer up if I keep pressing the right buttons. Go on but try if you want though :kissit:. Be just like the good old thidranki days.
