Swiching Jobs

I have read that you can switch your base job whenever you want. If you created a BLM and leveled it to 10 then decided you didn't like it and changed to be a THF and leveled that to 10 then decided it was crappy, could you switch back to BLM and still be level 10 ? <breathe>

Though if that's your plan, wouldn't advise having the same race for BLM as you would be for THF

Well they are the "best" for them classes overall..but go for personal preference

and when you get one of them to 18 and do the quest, you can have a lvl 18 theif and a lvl 9 BLM, when you ding 20, you'll be a lvl 20 theif and lvl 10 blm

Yep, your "sub-job" can be half the level of your "main-job".

Oh, and does your sub job level round up or down?

eg. at level 9, if you've already leveled your sub, will your sub be lvl 4 or lvl 5?

Since half of 9 is 4.5

it rounds down, it would be level 4.

Is a sub-job totally necessary? Because I would rather level until I can become Dark Knight rather than start a sub-job now which I won't ever use once I can become a DRK.

Well, if you keep your base as a sub when you switch to Dark Knight, you'll have a pre leveled sub up to lvl 60, anyway.

Don't know about the sub job thing pre level 30, though, since I haven't reached it yet.

Although a group will generally be more willing to pick a 28 Warrior/14 Monk than a straight 28 Warrior, so you might feel a bit neglected.

Argh, I'm going into ramble mode.

I'm not sure what subjob would go well with a Warrior anyway. I doubt a meatshield really needs one as long as he's got decent hp and armour to take the blows with.

Monk goes greatly with Warrior, due to the massive HP boosts making you more of a tank.
This or a Samurai as sub, as you will get TP percentage faster.

My last is gonna be: 70DRK/35WAR (War for Provoke, etc)

Gonna go with a Dark Knight/Thief. When I complete sub job quest I'll probably lvl up as a Monk to say lvl 15 or so, then carry on with Thief/Monk to 30 when I can do the DRK quest

Most tend to go Samurai as sub for DRK, since DRK doesn't take damage all that well so the provoke isn't all the useful to them.

But ofcourse it's all up the player so play what you want. ^^

DRK have the heaviest offence, of the melee classes, but what they have in offence, they lack in Defence.

Sub /sam for the TP and dmg boost

PAL/WAR is gr8, if you wanna sub War, uber tank

Let's put it like this:

If a party had to choose between a LVL 20 WAR, and a LVL 20 WAR/LVL10 MNK, which one would you think they'll choose ?

Besides, levelling a subjob to at least 10 is insanely easy, since A) You already know where to get exp since you already went through that phase, and B) you can sub your current Main job so you'll get a small stat boost and the lvl 1 job trait.

Btw, not even that - say you leveled to 10 with just 100 exp left to level 11, you would be level 10 with just 100 exp left to level 11 when you switched back from THF.

So you lose nothing but storage space in the inventory/safe to encompass the equipment for the two jobs.
