Thanks Teeds, its a moot point now as I've decided to be 100% safe and buy some of these:

Sorry if the image is a bit small :D

£170 from Harry Halls. I might flog the Rock Shox on Ebay. I just didn't fancy the idea of them bottoming out on the frame, and doing some damage.

I don't think the SIDs would be a problem...they might be dual crown, but they are still XC forks, and shouldn't have caused any real problems for your headtube. Maverick do a set of 150mm dual crown XC forks that don't void the warranty of most XC frames which are usually single crown only.

But the MX Comps are very good forks for the money, and they are totally bombproof as well. :)

This is bad news.

I'm finding myself browsing bike websites and looking at shiny bits of metal.

Shiny bits of metal like carbon cranks. Lightweight gearsets. Chrome seatposts.

*must stop self*

Jeysus, I just did about 8 miles on the Rock Shox (sideways hail around here right now, I'm soaked) and they are infinitely better than my old forks.

My old ones might as well have been cushioned with bricks for all the comfort they offer!

Theres too much travel full stop on the new ones though, I realised that even with the frame-crown set at 100mm the forks can still move up and bash the headset, worse still the tyre can hit the headset too. I'll have to wait until I get these new forks until I can ride it properly :)

I could take those SIDs off your hands if I can work out how to stop them hitting my down tube. Just because they look cool, and they'd match the vintage of my bike.

What's the axle to crown height on them?

About 430-440mm from the wheel hub to the base of the crown.

I'm checking with someone to see if my bike would survive. 440mm is getting to the limit of my frame, and with the way dual crown would stress the frame, it might put too much strain on the top tube.

heh, they delete them :)

http://www.cyclingplus.co.uk/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=21

There used to be an utter loony on there who would get banned every couple of weeks and return under a new guise. Hes an absolute nutcase who has been banned from just about every cycling forum going (and a few motoring forums as well).

Sidewalls, tabernacle, spindrift, trekstar, etc. You can often find him in a fight on some other forum by googling his alias :D

I called him a drug pusher because he wants to legalise Heroin 'a benign drug', which I didn't like. Thats why I got banned :) The daft thing is, he did it in retaliation because he posted violent threats against the chap who runs www.safespeed.org.uk and I complained about it. He even managed to get the entire C+ site shut down over a weekend, because he posted some libellous comments about a serving police officer, and that officer threatened the owners with legal action :D

Sorry for the length!

Heroin was indeed described by me as a 'relatively benign drug'.

Scientists and doctors agree, I guess according to Tom that makes them drug pushers too.

Listen, for example, to Dr Teresa Tate, who has prescribed heroin and morphine for 25 years, first as a cancer doctor and now as medical adviser to Marie Curie Cancer Care. We asked her to compare heroin with paracetamol, legally available without prescription. She told us:

"I think that most doctors would tell you that paracetamol is actually quite a dangerous drug when used in overdose; it has a fixed upper limit for its total dose in 24 hours and if you exceed that, perhaps doubling it, you can certainly put yourself at great risk of liver failure and of death, whereas with diamorphine, should you double the dose that you normally were taking, I think the consequence would be to be sleepy for a while and quite possibly not much more than that and certainly no permanent damage as a result." Contrary to the loudly expressed view of so many politicians, this specialist of 25 years' experience told us that when heroin is properly used by doctors, it is "a very safe drug".

Make heroin legal | Politics | The Guardian

I support the safe prescription of heroin to addicts because it's proven to reduce crime and save lives.

The evidence is clear: you can fatally overdose on heroin. But the evidence is equally clear, that - contrary to the claims of politicians - it is not particularly easy to do so. Opiates tend to suppress breathing, and doctors who prescribe them for pain relief take advantage of this to help patients with lung problems. But the surprising truth is that, in order to use opiates to suppress breathing to the point of death, you have to exceed the normal dose to an extreme degree. Heroin is unusually safe, because - contrary to what those US congressmen were told in 1924 - the gap between a therapeutic dose and a fatal dose is unusually wide.

No threats were posted by me or anyone else, that's why Tom is unable to reproduce any of the threats he claimed I made. That's pretty desperate, and dishonest.

3/

Cycling Plus was shut down briefly after a sustained campaign of abuse, threatening phone calls and harrassment from safespeed supporters, mainly the fake policeman called 'ingear'

Here's a discussion of how In Gear, Wild Cat and their various
alter egos invaded and closed down a cycling forum:

And here:

http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12530749&sid=e48...

The Swiss family are deeply unpleasant people, they closed down a
popular forum by threatening and abusing people whose only crime was
moderating a forum where Safespeeding was exposed as a crank outfit.

4/

These same people have been making all sorts of threats against me for 6 years now. I'm still waiting for legal action to be initiated and look forward to it immensely.

Meanwhile Tom, please don't lie about what I've said, ok?

OMG 3 year old zombie thread to complain about a message on a forum that doesn't exist anymore. Wow. A new definition of "no life".

Sorry dagaffer, if people lie about me I don't like it, call me old fashioned. A Google search for 'spindrift-safespeed' leads to this forum, which seems to be still active as far as I can see.

If you would ignore people calling you a drug dealer then you're more sanguine than me.

So, searching for a handle and a website, which would be done by...you, and pretty much no-one else. No one knows (or cares) what your real name is, and the world would have been blissfully unaware of Tom's appalling crime...until you resurrected this thread, bringing it to our attention and raising the quality of the search return. See what you did there?

Who's been saying I'm paranoid, I WANT THEIR NAMES!!!111eleven.

Give me resurrection or give me death. (Spinal Tap)

It cuts both ways, it's fair to say I'm appearing obsessive, but then I'm not the one with a My Little Pony diary with:

"PEOPLE I HATE"

written in it, eh Tom?

either join the forums and contribute, or go away? But for the love of god respect our inability to cope with the resurrection of old threads while you are here.

lmfao. How fantastically vain, to search the internet for your own name to see what people are saying about you.

Get back on your imaginary bicycle cock boy.

I searched for myself once after reading a story on identity theft and wanting to check how much info on me was floating around.

I just find someone with the identical name (it's pretty obscure) who's much better at my hobby than I am...bastard.
