Hangover woke me up and thenI noticed the lovely sunrise here. Piccy doesn't do it justice at all, wish I had a roll of nice slide film handy and the energy to get dressed and go drive 10 miles into the country to get a nice pic of it from atop some hill or summat :)

ahhh but do you know why its the sky is red in the morning and at night? why it is blue during the day? why the sky isnt blindingly bright during the night(olbers paradox)? hmm do you? :)

There's 2 reasons for the Olber's Paradox thingy - light from most of the stars in the universe simply hasn't reached us yet cos the universe isn't all that old really and secondly the universe is expanding so a lot of the light from stars that *has* reached us is modulated by red shift and therefore is negligible.

Blue sky is caused by scattering of the sun's light by the atmosphere. Long wavelength light (red) isn't absorbed much by the air and so passes by but the short wavelength blue light is absorbed & then scattered so we see the sky at day as blue (Rayleigh scattering this is). At sunrise/sunset the light has to travel further through the atmosphere and therefore even more blue light is scattered away which makes the sun look red. Also light bounces off of dust etc in the upper atmosphere and that makes the sky near the sun look red too.

It took a lot more than cut & paste!

I had to find a large clear picture of the ship to begin with, then I had to darken the ship cos it was lit in a day scene, I had to rub out some of the ship to let the tree on the right show through. I even blurred the edges of the ship to make it look 'realistic'

More effort went into that pic than went into anything else I did that day :)

Kind of, but dust filters out a lot of star-light aswell, meaning a lot of it from the distant stars never even gets here at all.
