This i've explained plenty of times, and even the footie people agree:

In simple terms, it's become so popular that it should have an own forum section, but as it is there won't be one, so tags would help people know when it' s a footie discussion and when it's not.

Would eliminate the urge to post something in it too(might as well as you're there), as one would simply dismiss it.

FB, Footie, Football in the thread title doesn't require much time(second?), and makes the forum a step nicer place.

If snooker, curling, gamahs' underwear was such a hot topic all the time, and especially in footie season time, then i'd prefer/ask the same thing.
