Interesting. Just finished reading it.

I always did wonder how Jobs got all those kills using aug/sig even though whilst zoomed it seemed NONE of the shots seemed to ever hit near centre after the first two bullets.

And aha, cold barrel syndrome did 'kinda' affect certain guns :p

Well the random aiming and path of the bullets explains alot about headshots. It seems that random headshots are more to do with the random path of bullets than they are to do with hitboxes.

The author thinks that the guns need to be more accurate - I would agree, but add that the guns should be more animated on long bursts of fire, and appear to jump out of the users hands more frequently.

I also agree about the 1st shot accuracy of some weapons. I have personally fired air rifles (no Im not a lunatic, I just had the chance once), and pulling that trigger immediately unsettles the gun's aim.

I also agree with the comments regarding player history; many times using the AWM I have scored a hit on some guy when I know for a fact, that I was off-target.


I would advise everybody to read this document. It answers lots of questions!

Having read that report, quite a lot of things have become much clearer. I always knew that the game mechanics were shagged, but never imagined them to be that bad.

Excellent article.

I'm sure if you did a thorough test like that for any FPS thats out atm youd be surprised at the mistakes and bugs.

An unfortunate, unsolveable aspect of latency.....

Oh well, like the author said, you can set the bullet miss decals to be what the server says, but then you'd have to wait to see where you were hitting!

PS Anybody got any work? 9 days and counting, still no fecking work!

The miss decal thing is obvious and has been known about for ages, since previous versions, its a product of the new netcode, and it dont really bother me...

I never knew about it and it bothers me because I instinctively adjust my aim according to what I appear to be doing on screen. But if what I'm doing on screen is bollox anyway, where the hell is the skill?

As the author says, you create a bullet cloud more akin to a shotgun blast and because of the random factor instead of real world physics being applied all you can do is get the cross hair as near to the target as possible and hope for the best.

I aint spending ages trying to explain it to you.

I did say ages ago that 1.3 was much more newbie friendly and that spraying was overly advantageous now, which is true and summerblue just goes to confirm that even more. This should be partly tweaked in 1.4 I hope, we shall see...

Well they should be called miss decals as if you shoot something and the bullet hits, then its a hit decal, but then again it is labelled miss because youve missed the human target, so oh well...
