Do the daily mail do that kind of thing? It can't be serious, surely?

£500 per week, how can she cope on the breadline like that! Perhaps she should donate her daughter to medical science and sell some kidneys.

rofl calling herself poor making 25k/year.

best part is the explanation why.

So how did this happen? Put simply, my partner and I started a new business four years ago, and we borrowed and borrowed and bought a country house alongside the two we owned between us in London.

We practically rebuilt it while I fussed over the kitchen, oohing and aahing over Farrow & Ball paint and butler sinks. We moved to the Cotswolds and I even bought another cottage as an ‘investment’.

When the recession hit, we realised the value of our properties had slumped and we were largely in negative equity. We had to rearrange our lives totally. These days, I am lucky if I earn £500 a week as a writer.

so 4 properties bought they couldn't afford and now qqing about being on 25k/year.

"Five years ago, I earned £1,200 a week from my work as a TV and film producer"

Fucking hell, she must have been shit to only earn that much.

That's probably the one about the silly newspaper columnist who bought a £400,000 flat in Ireland, and who is now whinging about having no money.

I blame the immigrants and all the cancer they are spreading for their house price slump!

The gays are probably involved too, what with their gayness and all that.

The pink pound took a right old pounding, bit like Elton John's bumhole.

I still can't work out if this is serious or some sort of attempt at a joke which the Mail thought was so hilarious they should print twice. The fact it all sounds so incredibly retarded to be real makes me hope it's the latter but at the same time it is the Daily Fail so can't rule out it being serious.

even on an editorial basis its pretty shoddy; some bits seem to have been copied verbatim in both of those articles

Sounds like an article aimed directly at my sister.

There's a genuine unhappiness and real fear in her when she talks about how she's having to cut back and make savings. I can't help but feel sorry for someone who's in that state.

Then I remember that she still lives in a £400k house in Caldy on the Wirral, just round the corner from where Rafa Benitez' gaff is, both kids go to very good non-fee-paying schools, the likes of which you wouldn't find in scummy areas and the (lawyer) hubby still manages to put a 2 new audi/saab/mercs on the drive every couple of years.

What these people lack is a sense of other people's realities. But the real story is this: If the "middle classes" can be so out of touch - how far out of touch do you think the ruling classes are?

Yay capitalism.

I knew it, I can't believe they even used the same picture. Well dragged up Tom. Shoddy 'Journalism' from a shoddy paper at it's worst.

Well, it's ofcourse silly that 500/week is supposedly little, but i think the point of the article was more towards poor people having a harder time at santamas, which in part is true.

She ofcourse can't talk from a poor perspective 'cause she isn't, but i think she did well in a comparative way. Afterall, a step from rich to rather well can be as much of a shock as someone losing everything from enough. If you're used to pino noir 1987 from the bellybuttons of young virgins, anything below a 100£ will taste like drane-o.

I do agree that it's a hard time for parents who want their children to have a perfect santamas, that one special day of the year, but at those times you should teach our kids the real message, outside of fancy gifts and wants.

I count myself lucky to not care about santamas being that special, time for family and some fun leisure, with some nice eats. Maybe richer folk should stop spending on santamas, just for the hell of it ;)
