Styles

I im curious. :)
I have a few question directed to all you people out there who can spec a weapon.

How many styles do you have on your quickbar?

Do you usually think about stuff like "i wanna give that dude a bleed effect so i'll use this style" or "i want to slow this guy down so i'll try to pull off this chain with a hinder in it"?

Or are choice of styles just "i have end regen so i will use this high damage/high end style" vs "no end regen so i'll use medium damage/low end style"?

Would be cool to hear from you out there who use alot of different styles because i hear that its pretty tough to pull off non-anytimes in rvr.

Oh and this is MY thread so you all behave now :)

I always use Reflection/Amethyst. If I parry and my Reflection works, I follow up with Hypnotic Darkness for the stun. If I don't parry and Amethyst kicks in, I use Diamond Slash next. That makes for 4 styles on my main quickbar. I have backslash and obscure (detaunt) on my second quickbar which I usually can access fairly quick when I manage to stun someone or enemy is running away.

I have 5 styles on my QB

Friar's Redress (DeTaunt, V High Defence Bonus), Counter Evade (Medium Defence Bonus + Hinder), Friars Friend (Side Postional), Banish (After FF, loads of damage), Friars Boons (Anytime, Taunt, best anytime style)

I sometimes switch my DeTaunt with Friar's Fury (after CE with Bleed and low defense bonus) to annoy those pesky SBs/NSs

I didn't ask which styles.

I'm more curious about if people find it worth it to do chains and use the different effects on the styles. Does bleed effect interrupt casting by the way? (you'd think i'd know that after a year of playing but nooooope :))

Anyway thanks for the answers. Keep em coming.

I use 4 styles, and those are:

Melee:
Slam + Puncture (anytime) followed by Lunge (only spec'ed 21 thrust).

Range:
Critshot + spam normal shot... = :mgwhore:

Edit: I just read the post above and ... well. If I engage in melee I don't think so much about tactics and different styles. I just ... panic and spams my melee combo above. :)

If you're playing an infiltrator with resorting to a buffbot (I never do in RvR), then you really need to use your full range of styles to win in open combat. Either that or you just sit on your arse waiting for solo casters to come along.

5 Styles:

Taunt anytime Styled
Parry Style
Block Opener
Block 2ndry
Back Pos Style

Slam Shield style

I also have :

I want to do some tests with this, as I personally believe that it does, though ive been shot down in flames before when I've asked. I always use a bleed style whenever I face casters, just in case. Then I'll follow up with my usuals.

Regarding quickbars, I'm a mercfil, and use the full range of positionals. Again, I want too do some tests if/when i return, but I'm curious to see if a back positional/side positional is greater than an anytime/frontal for damage.

Duration on hinder/snare effects I'm keen to examine, as although when fighting support types I try and get a hinder/snare style off, I've never really noticed if it works.

Just my two cents.

For those who care, all on one qbar

1. stealth
2. dual shadows <front positional>
3. dragonfang (evade - stun)
4. flank (side positional)
5. Follow up to flank
6. Back positional
7. Backstab 1 (casters only)
8. Lifetap Charges
9. Boot Charges <space clear at the moment>
0. Purge

2nd qbar has poisons and a few others that escape me. Usually a macrod limerick or two :p

Well with Mid style lines being mostly shite there's not much to go on tbh. You use a rear positional style if you get the chance as the damage is generally better (and less end cost most often) and if it hinders/bleeds etc then that's just a lucky bonus :)

bleed is like..pointless. Tho in 1.62b a 'long' bleed starts at 15 dmg or so instead of 7 which might make it marginally more useful.

Unless you have Leftaxe there isn't a huge array of styles to choose from imo. I have styles from CS, Sword and Leftaxe and the sword styles are quite crap and not worth using.

Remember really you wouldn't waste a hit using a (for example) lv 5 style because it has a hinder effect when you could hit with a lvl 39 style because it does 3 times as much damage but has no hinder effect on it.

Basically, styles depend on how crowded the situation is. Almost always use taunt as backup style, and rest depend on the situation. Unfortunately it's often abit hard to use styles effectively in RvR. However I do not have another bar when I'm on end regen.

As a thrust minstrel I used 2 styles, as a slash....1...which makes me happy, means I only need to use 2 quick bars to utilise my character to it's full potential...though my PvE 2 quick bars are different from my RvR quick bars.

The movement reduction styles are bugged and dont work, and generally you just want styles that do good damage/stun and dont burn all your endurance, hindered doesn't make a huge difference as far as I can tell.

In PVE I used lots of positional styles for good damage/low endurance (before end regen however) and would continue to use them in a group if I PVE'd at all. When solo I just use Evade reactive style backed up with anytime chain.

Hrrm. On my armsman:

QB1 (1H Thrust) <-- oops.

1H icon,
Shield stun,
Anytime,
Block reactive reactive.

QB2 (Polearm)

Polearm icon,
Shield stun,
Back positional,
Anytime 1,
Anytime 2 (chain),
Style reactionary,
Style reactionary 2 (chain).

On my Paladin:

Block reactionary,
Anytime,
Shield stun.
(Also has detaunt on there at the moment, but it's only for PvE purposes).

Taunt is on QB2... not that you really need it as a Paladin. :)

Similar to what Meatballs said, working in a group for PVE I will use mostly positional styles and taunt/detunt when needed. RVR is a lot more chaotic so don't tend to bother with positional styles so much then.....but as far as endurance economy goes you can't really fault positional styles imho.

Bleed damage functions as a dot...so interrupts on the first tick only. 1.62 patch may cause them to interrupt on all the ticks(thats what the rumors are....) and the DW line bleed starts at about 20 damage - i hope for the casters it only lasts for 5-6 ticks :)
