Looks like it has got a dodgy keyboard as well... ;o)
Could be any number of things - Perhaps the lens needs cleaning, or perhaps DMA mode is not enabled on the DVD drive (therefore the reading of the disk is too slow for proper playback - Do you hear lots of "noise" from the DVD drive?), or it could be something related to your graphics setup and DVD playback software.
I had that for a very long time on my laptop, turned out that the colour depth was the problem. Set to 16bit and it played jerky, 32bit and it played fine.
