I have been away from FH for ages, years even I think, but I know have a questions and for the answer I really couldnt think of any other source other than FH to turn to.

Im planning to study abroad in the UK, in Scotland more specific. Im 18 and next year Im done what we in Sweden call the gymnasium, the equilience of the last years of highschool I suppose.

When Im done I really like to go abroad to study, and I chose Scotland for some reasons partly unknown to me; I just like Scotland.

But how do I do? I've read that I myself need to get in contact with the universitys in Scotland, or some kind of schoolsystem there, to apply. Where do I get information?

My grades are good, its not the best but just under. Out of 20 Im getting 18. How does my grades go with the school system of Scotland? Will they look on em or do they have other ways of grading me?

Lastly, do anyone of you have any good tips regarding unis in Scotland? Any in particular good ones? Im mainly for studying psychology or the likes, but I really dont know how the system work. Is Psychology as hard to get in to in Scotland like it is in Sweden?

Glad for any information or tips!

Look up the uni admissions departement for psycology on their websites (edinbrough, glasgow? perhaps durham) does it have to be scotland, or just up north?
Then email them explaining you live in sweedish and want to apply and they should give you more info.
You'll probably have to apply through UCAS which is the general addmissions website for unis. For this you'll need a good personal statement explaining why you're suited to psycology, what experience you have, how your school subjects help you be good at psycology, what stuff you do out of class etc.
You'll need a referee, ie one of your teachers.
You'll need to fill in the whole form too :D
Get cracking because applications to start in 2009 open at the start of september.

If anyone have Any time on their hands and know how it works, could they add me on hannes.gullberg@gmail.com and help me? Would be seriously appreciated :)

You need to figure out where you want to study. I know you said you want to study in Scotland but look around a bit first. You might see something you really like elsewhere and there are alot of places in the north of england that allow you to visist Scotland easily!

The application process is described in great detail here

Get a stab vest before you go! xD

Or I've heard that the Swedish military are selling old tanks for around £600, you should look into if you can take one with you to the UK.

Scottish uni's are slighlty different to English ones. Where as most English uni courses are 3 years long a degree in scotland lasts four years. For your first year you will study three subjects (2 minors 1 major) then in your last 3 years you will pick one of those subjects to Major in (as far as I was aware you can change your major from the one you did at first year - may be worth checking out).

Getting a student Visa shouldn't be too hard, millions of chinese students manage it.

I think the Swedish goverment actually stands for the majority of the costs if you study abroad.

I'll talk with a student counsellor in about a week and hopefully I got a full application done by then.

From what I've read, University of Strathclyde looks like a really good uni.

I've read somewhere that you can do max five applications, and I'll prolly choose 5 different unis and apply for their psychology programmes.

Scotland is an amazing place :) look at what we call the red brick universities, which you can generally distinguise as their names are The University of.. (city name here) so say Aberdeen is a really good one. Sweden is a really hard place to get into university in general mate, its not so hard here, if you got the grades you're generally in. I get you the list of the top uni's in scotland for psychology:
rank 6 in the UK is University of Glasgow
26 University of Aberdeen
33 Edinburgh
all three are amazing renowned universities with beautiful amazing cities.
you go onto the websites and look at international degrees/students

hope this helps, message me if you want to know anything else:)

Aye Swedish uni's are a major pain in the ass to get into due to our country basically demanding university educations for ANY job regardless if it's actually needed or not. And if you do get in you better pray you manage to get somewhere to live else you'll have to turn the spot down(there's like 2 years wait time for a student room in Stockholm atm - and if you decide to get a "real" apartment, 70% or so of your monthly income will go to rent, another 15% or so for the shithigh buspasses and then you need to live on the rest).

If you want to start in sept 2008 your too late unfortunatley, however if its for sept 2009 then i would try and get the application in before the end of october as most colleges here get them sent off then so you will get some of the first conditional offers, or possible unconditional depending how the grades transfer. PM me if you need any help filling in the form, did it all this year.

Indeed he is too late. But the clearing madhouse for english & welsh uni's starts at 11am later today for those who didn't get their first or elected choices. I'll be in school to help the kids I teach. Roll on the madness!!

Sweet Sharma :)

Well heres my situation: I've mailed the Uni of Strathclyde for some more help regarding getting in, how my grades are weighted etc..

I got the payment all done...

Only thing Im really wondering is how the english grading system works, and how my grades will be looked at. Also, Im in the middle of writing a Personal Statement. Does anyone have any tips on writing one? What to lift forward etc..

Sorry for being away, but had a really busy week. I'll give ya an update when I've talked to my student counsellor.

I think if you turn up a couple of times a week they give you a pass. Or at least thats what happened with some of the numpty graduates we have at work :)

.

Talk about any sort of expeirnece you've got in the subject you've applied for/applying for, why you want to do it, what you hope to get out of it (Really sell yourself) then explain why you think you'd be good at it. I wrote my personal statement, sent it, re-read it and realised it was crap (Nice sentence structure, but crap) but it got me what I wanted.

Grading system is like.. 2.3/2.2/2.1/first class. Based on assignments and exams.. I think o_o *Hopes somebody currently doing it will answer so I know officially too*

Well regarding grading system, anything is better than the stupid shit we have here, 4 grades alone, including the failed one with a huge jump from "pass" to "pass with good performance".

Aye Helme, its one of those things you really just shrugg at while thinking about

I'll start to write my Statements tomorrow. Perhaps, if people would bother to read em, I'll post em up here. I would really need some help, advice and critique before sending em in since its the first ever Statement or the likes Im going to send in :)
