Applied for my student loan, got all the forms sent off in the first/second week of june, fine, cool. That went okay, got the form sent back as we were missing a piece of financial information and sent it back the same week. Fine.

Now, I get a letter in JULY saying I've not given them any proof of I.D., so being the willing 20 year old I am, I go to my local LEA/Councill thingy in town, and give them my birthcert with another person's sig, to show it's me. Fine, sent off.

Get ANOTHER letter saying I haven't handed it in, about 3 days later (Was a generic email according to them, and to ignore it) but, to be safe I made them take my passport details (same office) to be sure, they did. I rang the student finance guys and they said they HAD my ID and their system was slow.

Now it comes to today :)

Checked my finance page thing about the situation of the loan (for uni) and it STILL says I'm missing information, that I still need to send ID to them. When they said they've got it..

Cutting it a bit close eh? Considering there's only 4 weeks till I leave and go to get this supposed H.E.

Going to give them a call and see what's happening, and worst comes to worst take a 35 min walk and go to their office, which was near my college actually.

Letting OTHER people deal with IMPORTANT things is crap. I hate it. *Loathes the delay on the loan*

Here's a tip re. Student Loans. Ask to be income assessed even if you know you don't qualify cos they zip it through dead quick then.

We are being income assessed... We sent off all the necessary payment forms, nearly twice because of them. Parent works for the NHS, so isn't alot of cash coming her way as it is. So I should be ellagable for a high loan o_O

Really? Bad luck man. When i went to uni (the first time, going back this year) I applied for an income assesed loan in the first week of september, it was in my bank the day after in enrolled in the 3rd week of September.

I don't even have a UCAS number yet this year and i'm starting on the 20th of September so i know how you feel with regards to cutting it fine lol.

Bloody hell. That's quite quick. It's not the loan that's bothering me more than anything tbh, it's the fact I've sent them (and they've confirmed over phone) that I've given them ID, yet.. They've not update their site OR sent me any other letters regarding it. Surely they'd send a mail saying "We're missing this"

I've got people calling on my behalf today (Calls on mobiles are a ripoff) and I'm going to Civic Offices tomorrow to use their phone as they're directly connected, is nice. HOPE to have this sorted by friday at the latest, I want to know how much I have to live off/how much I'm getting etc.

They SURE do leave things late, considering I got my application in a few weeks before the "Late" deadline. -_-

As said, going there tomorrow :D I want this sorted... Oooh, I didn't know that. Thing is, I'm moving up the country, so if it gets sent here, while I'm there.. It'll cost me £60 to come back and get it :p

Haha, Aoami, ours starts on the 15/16th and "education" starts on the 22nd :p Means I'm actually going to have to socialise with people :( I've got friends going to the uni the same year as me, so I don't need more friends! :(

IMHO! There needs to be a shuttle (cheap) between Stafford, Wolves, Derby and Notts :D

Always go income assessed and make sure you get a matienence grant and you can get about 3000 quid free EACH year so basically pays for uni tuition loan :D. Also where you going Overdriven? Sounds like Keele but Keele starts later than that but has same freshers week length.

Always go income assessed .

why?

if your parents earn so much per year you wont get anything. so youve just wasted time running about getting ID and sending off proof of earnings.

the more efficient thing to do is check what you can get based on your parents income and then apply if you can get anything.

haha the joys of dealing with studentfinancedirect. Got my loan late last year by 3 months cos of their incompetance. But it was nice when it came cos i basically got 2 payments at once.

it is quite stupid how you get assesd though based on your parents income imo.

I do get the full amount as my mum is disabled and cannot work, but a few of my friends at uni do not get anything from their parents to compensate. On the other hand, i know a fat git who gets 80£ a week off them.

Yes I was speaking to the people with a low family income as this is just common sense.

when re-applying non-income assesed involves ticking about 15 boxes and signing a piece of paper though takes 10 seconds! :p

haha, I got the same fuck about here too.

Took them about 3 months to financially assess mine as they told me i'd not handed in my dad's financial info whereas we handed into the Middlesbrough LEA *three* times.

So I basically had enough of the shit they were giving me so I hammered them with phonecalls and multiple complaints.

They shifted their arses then.

Situation Update: Hah.

Well, went to the civic offices today and spoke to a bloke at the counter who thankfully gave me the student finance LANDLINE number (No more 0875 shite) and told me to talk to them. So I got home 5 minutes ago and gave them a call, a purdy sounding woman answered (Who was most probably 30+ :p) and I told them what was happening...

So, after a nice little chat I found out that Stafford HADN'T updated the information for students on this particular course till today/yesterday night and they told me to email/confirm (the loan people) that I was doing the course. BUT, I told them I was doing another! So, I sent them the new details and (I have to send them nothing by post, as they have it all \o/) they'll hopefully have it done this week as they've been waiting a while to update mine.

Lovely.

See, getting things done yourself is much for fun than relying on other people.
