Maybe should be in the Tech Forums section

www.streamshield.com

Viruses, Scams, Trojans, Kiddie Porn and a host of other nasties all waiting for your pc can on the net. Now this maybe a thing of the past with Streamshield CSG (Content Secuirty Gateway). Designed specifically for ISP's to filter out all of the above. Stuck on an ISP's network and it boasts it can analyse upto 250,000 web page requests and 5000 emails per second. Not bad eh.

But here lies the catch. As well as filtering incoming traffic through a database of over 6million dodgy sites it is also designed to stop outgoing traffic it deems inapropriate such as Cracked Software and Controversial content. So try and say Bomb, House of Commons and Tony Blair in the same email and see how far your email gets.

According to Marco Potests of Plus Net they will be offering a clean feed option. Surely this is a case of net censorship at its worst. The first filtered service will be with us by the summer.

There will always be a niche for different products. People like AOL will love this. Other providers are savvy enough to offer unfiltered content.

indeed - that will by no means ever become the norm, and if it does, then quite frankly this country will have gone to shit and i'll move to somewhere where they dont give a flying fuck about a bit of harmless dog porn.

Thats already filtered by most (all?) UK ISPs anyway - the rest changes too quickly for this sort of product to be any use against.

It also sounds like a false-positive disaster waiting to happen.

My internet here is already censored, bit daft really. Was reading a webcomic called her! (Girl vs Girl) and now the ISP blocked it.

Porn sites blocked.
Controversial sites blocked.

:(

fuck it - you practically need private health care here atm anyway and iv nearly finished my degree so thats not an issue, im a big lad not many ppl would mug me :D

and its not simply "take my internet and i fuck off" its "tell me what to do when it quite clearly has nothing to do with you" that will make me leave, and seeing various recent legislature its going that way and I for one fucking despise it.

Surely this is removing a sense of free speech... or free eyes. Whatever!
