pc went FZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!-BANG! and tripped the mains in the house, power supply deaded.

replaced that, since then, something has been making a click/tapping/rattling sound *occasionaly*

not sure if its a fan-type noise, or the HDD dying, wondering if any of that ^ might have an effect on the HDD ? or is it more likely to be fans..

any thoughts ? :(

Could well be the click of death. Before you do anything, start backing up your important data :)

Could be any of the above, you'll need to open it up and try to isolate it.

i would but its so random

if i leave machine on, it sometimes happens
if im gaming, it sometimes happens, but not always, which seems to suggest hdd, cos if it was a fan spin up ball bearing or similair, i would of thought it would do it all the time its getting warm, so not sure

but it can go 4 hours without any noise at all, so its not really practical to unplug 6 fans one after the other in the hope that its that - and it could be cpu fan aswell

I'll side with Nath on this - during an unexpected shutdown like that it can cause the drive's head to jolt/jar. Probably only clicks when it reaches that point again.

its not quite that, its more that rapid noise at 00;25, but a bit louder.
