Hey,

I have been having strange link dead problems the previous few weeks, it just suddenly came on and just hoped for it to go away :p

Well, here's the problem:
If I use a Djinni in ToA, to zone e.g. oceanus>stygia I get yellow L (Latency) which turns into red L, then a red P (Ping) and then I go Link Dead. Looking at my second computer (well, bros.. we're on a LAN, and it says 'A local area network cable is unplugged') Now, that I find very strange, why would zoning in a game screw up the LAN? Then after it eventually takes me back to desktop, the mouse and keyboard freezes for about 30secs every 5secs, and so far the only way to get it back to normal is restart my computer

It also occurs when releasing to certain places.. releasing in ToA, SI or to generally any other zone the problem still occurs.

I haven't done Trial & Error as I am not very good with computers, I have done virus scans thinking that cold be the problem, no viruses. I am using ZoneAlarm and Norton AntiVirus on both computers. I have no problems in others games with it crashing or 'lagging'.

Thanks for your time :)

Make sure you have the latest manufacturers drivers for your network card. The Microshat ones seem to cause problems like this, so find the make of the network card (control panel > system > hardware > device manager), go to their web site and download their drivers for it.

Also do the usual and check your copy of direct-x is up to date, and the drivers for your GFX card.

Ok thanks I update my network card driver when I get home. I know my graphics drivers and direct-x is up to date though. Hope it solves the problem :p

Hmm, do you need some kind of CD to update net work drivers? I'm using NETGEAR FA311. I opened the file I downloaded (I tried 2 seperate updates) and couldn't run anything that would install it, no file called Run, or..Install. Tried it extracted also, but couldnt work out how to install it. Looked on google and it mentioned having a CD.. Never needed a CD lasttime I installed a new driver.

Ok, I had this with Netgear too. Get the update off the netgear site. It'll try to tell you that the base XP one is better, but ignore that, and force it to update.
