What is it with people laughing these days when someone dies?

The guy did alot for protecting wildlife he showed us some great animals and gave great entertainment and at the sametime gave us a look into wildlife and not in a boring documented show that you switched over when it got boring.

I watch alot of wildlife programs but for people who weren't that interested he got them interested because he was a complete nutter/risk taker and a great person.

He will be missed by millions especially the animals he was trying to protect.

Atleast he died doing what he loved something many of us will never experience.

You don't get that many people who are so enthusiastic about wild animals. I think he did a lot to raise the popularity of many animals, especially amongst younger people who watched his shows - but also people in general. It is kind of inevitable that such a fate might befall someone like him, but lots of jobs are life-threatening and worthwhile - it's not like he was doing it for no purpose, a thrill seeker, so he will be missed by me and many others I'm sure.

I had hoped the thread had a punchline when I saw the ... after the title but no, it seems it's true after all.

I thought he was great. Very entertaining and, as many have said, good at getting people, who might otherwise not have noticed, into wildlife.

I feel very sorry for his youngest kid who's not even 3yrs old. He'll only really get to know his father through the documentaries he made.

Thats the whole thing isnt it, I can just imagine the scene. Steve is molesting some poor stingray. He got belted in the chest with its tail and then he's gone up to the camera and said, 'CRIKEY! Look at that! This fella has got me right in the chest!'

I can't see him laughing while drowning and leaving behind his wife/2 kids but yes it had to be an animal that killed him nothing else would have done him justice.

Apparently he started on his showman career to help out his Dads Crocodile park place that was going down the pan - he turned the business around then got his tv series and went from there. It was renamed australia zoo or something...

He was particularly popular in the states as they loved his enthusiasm/hype.

I heard he was filming a piece for his daughters tv series when he was killed.
