Statutory/Implied Warranty

I understand that a second hand vehicle sold in the UK automatically has a three month warranty by law ... unfortunately I can't find it in writing anywhere and the seller is being a cock. Anyone got any concrete info?

The vehicle in question is a second hand van that belongs to a client. He's done about 2000 miles in the six weeks he's owned it, this morning the van wouldn't start and a mechanic reckons it needs a new engine.

Any input appreciated.

I don't think that's correct tbh. Private buyers and auction houses can (and do) sell cars 'as seen'. However, under the trades descriptions act, anything sold has to be 'fit for purpose'.
