The amount of uber-nerd in this thread is way too high. Can't people be happy a movie is going to come out which probably won't suck and will probably be entertaining for 2 hours? If people had to stick to the originals of things, we'd have no decent films come out... Ever.

"Oh my god, it doesn't match comic book number 217! This film is shit! Worst film of the year!"

Just saying. Personally looking forward to it, first one I thought was really good (I go in intentionally not comparing it to ANY other Trek film by the way, would be stupid to do that) - So will be glad to pay. GF loved the first one too, so a decent day out.

let me just say i loved the 09 film but i felt the message of the original star trek just wasnt there. it was turned into an action film all be it a good one, that been said tho it was a stand alone movie it was a new story used to reboot the franchise and it worked cos the younger generation love it.

BUT my gripe is if its a remake of wrath of khan i just dont see it working as well as the original. for starters as stated they havent even encountered each other yet. i mean it was all about the struggle between these 2 men and their hate for each other. the audience today is alot shallower im talking the younger genenration not you lot, they want pew pew lasers and explosions every 5 minutes and that was never what star trek was about and as a pretty die hard star trek fan that bugs me a bit. i think a franchise thats been going for as long as star trek has it deserves better treatment

if however they remake space seed that could be very interesting as i always felt that episode could have had alot more content the whole eugenics was never really explained very well.

just please dont turn it into a 2 hour pew pew action film give us something a bit deeper as well

Star Trek was based on an ethos. If you remove the ethos it's not Star Trek - it was integral to it.

e·thos
noun
1. the fundamental character or spirit of ... the underlying sentiment that informs the beliefs, customs, or practices...

and

in·te·gral
adjective
1 necessary to the completeness of the whole

Which is why Star Trek used to be special. It had an ethos, the removal of this integral feature means that the new films just look like Star Trek - but may as well be Indiana Jones.

Given the time in their careers when the Enterprise crew are going to meet Khan, its likely to be set before Khan was marooned on Ceti Alpha. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't have the crew encountering the Botany Bay in space for the first time with no idea what's about to bounce out at them :)

Looking forward to the next film, good trek bad trek whatever trek it will be fun.

Best part about it is that i'm not really a trekkie trekkie, so i've completely forgotten what happened with khan, just some cliffnotes :p
