Hey everyone!!
Its been two weeks, but finally I've managed to eek a bit of free time to come use the money-fuelled PC's at the club here on Camp.
The last couple of weeks have just been mad, the first week was all signing things and getting fitted up for our kit(I'm now the proud owner of my very own gasmask!), then getting it all issued and learning how to set our lockers up - basicly just getting it so everyone knows where they stand, then this last week we've just been ragged all week - we've failed every locker inspection bar one - just a single crease in a shirt is enough to have the whole locker tipped out onto the floor
In addition to this we've had drill, weapons lessons and Phys - normally two PT sessions a day at the moment, which usually involves us being "beasted" until everyone's standing in a pool of thier own sweat and struggling just to stand up!
They're pushing us harder than I expected in a way, but one thing they've banged into us all along is that at the end of our training we'll be sent more or less straight off to Afghanistan to get a nice tan and make friends with the locals - so they just want us to be ready for that I guess.
We start at 5am or earlier every morning and finish at around 10pm almost every night - except for today we've been given the rest of the day off because there's some parade going on in the camp
The best bit is that we have lights out at 10:30pm - but we tend to sneak about after that getting things done - ironing, polishing boots and cleaning the bathrooms etc. Its kinda comical - 12 of us standing there steathily ironing by torchlight, jumping into bed every time we hear footsteps outside our door! We've only been caught once so far (it was midnight, we got 100 pressups), I suspect my FHOT ninja training has helped with that though!
So far from a starting troop of 48 we've already lost 8 people, rumour has it that one of them was on suicide watch at one point because the pressure was too much!!
Its been hard, but at times really good fun, our section (a group of 12) is really good, some real characters here! Our sergeant is from the Grenadier Guards too, so he's training us as if we were going off to an infantry unit - So far if we've gotten through a day without having to do 200 press ups we've gotten off easy!
The PTI has nicknamed me "Forest", as in Forest Gump (because of my running, not because I talk about boxes of chocolates constantly
) The name seems to have stuck and now everyone uses "Forest" instead of my surname
It could be worse though; a guy in my section from Belize has been labelled "Pig flu"!
Never the less I tend to spend most of my day doing Forest gump impressions, my favorite being "I just felt like runninguh" while we're on endurance runs, breathing out of our arses
Starting week three tomorow, after that there'll be just 11 more weeks to go!
Loads of stories to post but I have to get back to my Commando Ironing and Ninja Bathroom cleaning, otherwise I'll get beasted again on monday
( it'll probably happen either way, hah)
Hope everyone's ok here too! I'm not sure when I'll get time to post again, but I'll try to make time so I can check back sometime in the next couple of weeks!
