Spyware Removal Tools (Comparison)

Just found (via Slashdot), a couple of side-by-side tests on Spyware removal tools: one from ArsTechnica, the other from spywarewarrior.com.

They make interesting reading, particularly if you use Spybot S&D, which does not come out of the tests very well. In general, they state what we knew already - don't trust just one app to always do the job, use several.

I use Spybot & Ad-Aware too, but I'm now thinking about adding another one or two to that list.

The best tool I use is HiJackThis from Merjin, it is not a spyware remover per se, just a tool for listing all the "hijacking" tricks being used on your PC, some are legitimate (such as AV), some are spyware.

It does not take long to go through the report and tick those that you find as spyware, and it will eliminate _all_ of them, not just the ones it knows about.

I consistantly find HijackThis will remove stuff that other tools have extreme difficulty doing.
