[14-12-2004] Sponsor your friends in Dark Age of Camelot

Since it's first days, Dark Age of Camelot has based a part of its success on word of mouth and it is only natural that GOA sets up a sponsorship offer to thank all those who participate in the widening of the community. This is why we are happy to announce to you that as of today, you have the possibility to invite friends to the game and benefit from free subscription days.

How to proceed ? You just have to go to the subscription section, where there is a new sponsorship page. This page allows you to type up to 3 email addresses and a message for your friends. When you validate it, an email is automatically sent to them. It contains your message as well as the detailed instructions for the installation of the game in Super Classic version. Your friends will be able to enjoy a 7 days free subscription period. You can repeat these invitations for 1, 2 or 3 people each time, with the possibility to personalise your message. Don't forget to tell your friends which are your servers and realms so they can play with you and you will be able to help them with their very first steps.

If your friends decide to register after their testing period, they will earn you free periods :
If your friend subscribes for 1 month, you earn 5 free subscription days
If your friend subscribes for 3 months, you earn 15 free subscription days
If your friend subscribes for 6 months, you earn 1 free subscription month
If your friend subscribes for 12 months, you earn 2 free subscription months

Additionally, you will see a new section on the account pages "Game Account Creation". This section enables you to manage several game accounts from a single subscription account. You just have to enter the CD-keys of your products and to accept the Subscription General Conditions. This is only possible for newly created game accounts. Existing game accounts unfortunately aren't able to be merged with a subscription account.

Do not hesitate to invite as many of your friends as you can, but stay reasonable and don't become a spammer !

I think it's quite good, but you just complain about everything, don't you ?

Even if it is desperate, it's a good way to attract new players, and new players would be handy for the people deciding not to leave daoc for a game that looks like a friggin cartoon.

I fail to see what your complaint is, both you and the new player get free time to play, and you get to publicise and advertise the game.

Theres no better advertising than word of mouth and for ages we have grumbled about the crap advertising and game distribution in Europe. Now GOA have gone one better and given us the chance to get people who would not normally have given the game a go to at least try it out.

However, 7 days isnt long in DAOC as we all know, and perhaps those free accounts could get a single /level 20 and some freebie armour (or better, emerald seals) to give them a chance to see things, else all they gonna see is the back of Mularn.

Great move GOA, but more advertising please ;)

It's a nice campain from GoA. But i would have hoped that they implemeted the "copy lvl 50 to new account" here also, not just in the U.S. Then i could probably convice a few ppl to start up. Not fun for them or me to start at lvl1 and plvl them to 50 so they can join in on the fun.

well if they're your friends you can show them around a bit more than mularn - 7 days is enough to get the idea of the game, then you can buy a month and try the rest of it.

You won't be able to go pwnzor in RvR after 7 days but there are lowbie battlegrounds....

DAoC doesn't hook you with RvR or with epic raids - bashing goblins is the hook...

And it's a good idea :) gives me an excuse to spam all my non-daoc friends and try and corrupt them :) (though I'm having to burn one of them a CD - evil dialup and all that)

pling them to 50 will just have them quit sooner in my experience...

The people in my guild that levelled up normally stick around, the ones that pled themselves to 50 either quit, deleted or just sold their account within a month or two after getting there.

There is obviously exceptions but that's the trend.

If you want to go kill enemies with them go to the bg's.

Yeh then when population drops you can say it was our fault for not getting friends to signup to the lagfest .Just like you`ll say its our fault 3 months from now that OT/GOA have`nt done anything about the unplayable lag cos i did`nt send enough ping plots.TOA is completely unplayable right now so why would i recommend DAOC in its current state to a friend?

Just give us a PRE-TOA server and you will see what will happend. But they wont, couse they know it will be overpopulated and that will show them that their expasions have failed.

don't ;) it's entirely optional.

However how many new players do you think will be playing ToA straight off the bat anyway? not many - and if they actually play the game and level rather than being pled to 50 they won't do so before 1.71 :p So with any luck the ToA lag (which will get fixed) won't be annoying them.

"Since it's first days, Dark Age of Camelot has based a part of its success on word of mouth"

Well yeah, since GOA have never made any real effort to actually do anything wild and crazy like advertise or promote the game, certainly not in the UK.

"you get to publicise and advertise the game."

Oh wow, do I? Gee, thanks a lot. GOA should be publicising and advertising the bloody game! Their dismal failure to promote the game in any meaningful way, certainly in the UK, is one of the biggest blots on GOA's blot-laden record.

"There's no better advertising than word of mouth"

Actually a couple of full-pagers in PC Gamer and the like is a lot better. You know, the full-pagers we regularly see for EQ2, Ryzom, SWG, WoW, EVE Online, etc.

"...and for ages we have grumbled about the crap advertising and game distribution in Europe."

And rightly so, since they have both been indubitably crap.

"Now GOA have gone one better and given us the chance..."

...to do their job for them. Pff.

Not your normal pecsimistic view I have to say.

Firstly, those mags are becoming increasingly unpopular, why, because you can get it all on the web these days and with high speed internet for most, the cover disks aint worth a penny. If that was the case though, I wouldnt be here, as I dont buy those n00bie pr0n mags. Also, the player base for Ryzom, EQ2, SWG etc etc would make DAoC look daft, but they really dont. You can advertise things as much as you like, but lets face it, unless you hear a recomendation about something, normally you wouldnt touch it.

As for me saying about our grumblings, Im the first to agree, so dont take my words out of context, but heres a chance to do something, which is better than the feck all we have had in England eh? Something is better than nothing is it not? I also agree its not our job to advertise, but ANY form of advertising is great, the mere fact we are all still playing the game says we do at some level enjoy it, and dont tell me you have never tried to get a m8 insterested, well now you get rewarded for doing just that.

Seems you lot aint got much festive spirit in you ya tight arses.:kissit:

I think that it's a great idea, but, they should've waited for Catacombs to hit Europe so that /level is disabled and the game is a lot more noob-friendly, NF a bit more stable, etc etc.

nice idea but it was born dead because of toa, would never recommend daoc to a new player, especially not to a friend. "yes m8 it's a nice rvr game with sieges and stuff! oh almost forgot to add you'll need to first level up, get & exp artifacts, do masterlevels... only takes a couple of months if you play a lot, really fun and challenging with the arti pop timers etc"

Do you?
Damn I'm doing something wrong then. I'd better stop having fun in RvR until I've done all of that. I must have missed the popup screen when porting to the frontiers that says you aren't allowed to enter unless you have ml10 and at least 3 artifacts at level 10 already.
Should I ask Goa to take all the RPs I've earnt back until then do you think?

But ofcourse we don't HAVE to get artifacts and MLs, just as we didn't HAVE to buy SI... a load of Mythic BS if you ask me. Unless you prefer playing with a huge disadvantage from the moment you enter NF without artifacts and MLs and other TOA stuff (I'm not even talking about realmrank differences here), you have no choice at all. It's stupid saying you don't have to get TOAed cuz you do. Mythic made sure you do, else no one would spend insane amounts of time in that hell hole called TOA doing MLs and lvling artifacts. You do it because you need it to compete with the others. And newbie players will have to do them as well if they intend to rvr and not get steamrolled all the time.

Highly untrue, if you play "twoll go bash" RvR then yes, but if you engage brain, use tactics and common sense then no.

My RR3 healer and RR2 shamman can do just as well in NF as anyone else, heck Ive seen level 4X players out there making more RPs than most 50s with no TOA, artis or MLs. This besides the fact that RvR is not the end game for everyone, and if any of the "im going to WoW" crowd dispute that, then when you get to this uber game, you wont have much of a choice, PvE or die, simple.

Theres more than one way to play DAoC, you have the PvE minions, the RvR whores, those who PL4tehwin and "none of the above, i just want to have fun". Tarring all DAoC players with one brush is wrong, everyone here plays a different game.

Then you are forgetting the battlegrounds, where RvR is the most balanced and equal in this game, hardly anyone can say they have advantages in anyway there which makes it a lot more fun. These now start at level 1, so even a potential RP whore can start young.

Its becomming increasingly easiler to spot people who didnt play old school, and think they have it hard.
