Spiritmaster Spec?

Hi, I'm trying to decide a spiritmaster spec and was originally going for 47 darkness but i have been put off by alot of people saying it isn't that good. Can someone tell me if 37 Darkness, 37 Supression, 13 Summoning will be a good spec to do as thats what im thinking about, but does your level in an area effect the damage your base spells do in that area?
