Spiders!!

I've been catching up with the outstanding domestics round the house and garden in the 2 decent days we have had so far.

On Sunday, I decided that the wooden Patio furniture needed its yearly quota of varninshing. so, brush in hand I started on the task. Heres my story.

After about 2 months of almost non-stop raining, it was refreshing to venture outside in shorts and a t-shirt to tackle the job in hand.

Kids were happy to play in the paddling pool and chute, soaknig each other and generally having fun as I prepared the items for painting. Started off with the table as it seemed the easiest to break my self in. No problems, a few swipes with the stiff brush; a few wipes with the damp cloth and I was off and painting. Finished in about 5 minutes.

Next came the single chair, full of nooks an crannies so it was a rough prep job prior to painting.

At this point the children became interested in what I was doing and came to watch.

-- Did I mention I live in the country? all the cleaning dislodged the normal spiders, including the long legged grass spiders which I picked up and showed the kids (big toughie me; not scaredof a few tiny spiders). Besides that, you need to be careful not to instill the fear of spiders in kids at an early age. So I quelled my fear and let the spider crawl about my hand.
Spider jumped (or was it pushed?) out my hand before the youngest got a good look so I promised him that the next spider I found I would let him see.

Full of youthful enthusiasm he monitored my work intently. I continued painting until dislodged the next spider which I promised I would show him. How the HECK did I know that it would be the BIGGEST godamned spider I had ever seen!!!

The bloody thing could almost have picked me to show its kids.!!!! I had to pick it up (those with kids would understand) and the bloody thing almost filled my hand!!!

I still dont understand why anything needs more than 4 legs (and 2 eyes)

I swear I can still feel it crawling up me arm

[shudder]

ROFL!

I used to have no fear of spiders at all...until I was playing with one and using it to freak out my gf. Well suffice to say it bit me well 'ard and I'm now...well not exactly frightend, but let's say 'respectful' of the little buggers.

TIP: take the lass to see "8 legged freaks" :D

I went to Thailand back in '95 and we were sleeping in a beach front chalet in Phuket.

I woke up in the middle of the night to see my mum approaching my bed with a glass in hand. She cupped this absolutely gigantic spider in the glass and put it out the door, saying it had gone away and to go back to sleep etc...

Only on the plane back to England did she say it had gone mental in the glass and started spitting venom all over the inside. :eek6:

And, yes, if you don't like and/or have an inherent fear of spiders, you cannot go and see Eight Legged Freaks. I loved it though. :)

hmm, i dont really like spiders, the big ones go too fast for my liking, i dont like touching em.. i blame it all on arachnaphobia, damn movie :/

We all know that mostly all Spiders in the UK are pretty much harmless, but, if we ever go abroad we have to be careful of their species.. i dont be doin a Steve Irwin anytime soon thats for sure!

No spiders but theres a whole nest of ants in my garden. Loads of ants and lots of flying ones. A few days ago a GIANT moth flew right in front of my face and I almost pissed myself!

You've just opened yourself up to a torrent of questioning about that fear. :)

So, you might as well just save us all the time/energy and spit it out. ;)

I actually dreamt that I was watching a wildlife documentary last night about a man and his wife, who was a small penguin. Then they had sex.

No frightening but a bit spooky :/

I don't think "spooky" even begins to describe that dream. :eek6:

I like spiders :) I think there's only a couple of types in the UK that will actually bite you if you waft your fingers at them, and they can't really hurt you...

The reason why big spiders move fast, or at least the biggest type in the UK do, is that their webs aren't sticky, so when insects fly into them, the spider has to poison it before it can work out what's happened.

The other week, this one little spider went on a large web building program in my room. I saw him dangling from my ceiling when i went to bed, but when i woke up, he was half way through a web that went from the light shade to the ceiling. However, i sleep with my window open, and this web was near it, so it was getting blown about. The spider must have realised that the web was in a poor position, because he started distmantling it... I'm not sure what they do with the silk stuff, however he went up and down the web, and the silk was dissapearing.

When i went back into the room later in the day, he'd started work on a huge web... The web part was only about a 7 inches by 7 inches, however it was about 2 feet below the ceiling... This meant that there were 2 cords attached to the ceiling suspending it, and then a cord of silk stretching down to my bed, about 4 feet below the web! And this spider was really small, smaller than a 5p piece.... Fuck knows how he managed to do so much web building. Anyway, i realised i would have to get rid of the web or else i couldn't get to my bed, however when i went to bed, the web had dissapeared... As had the spider. Bizzare :)

Yes, cotton wool. :(

Also, the screeching sound marigolds make when they're rubbed against a wet plate or something. Gah, I felt a chill down my spine just typing that. :(

Although nails down a blackboard doesn't bother me at all.

It won't make you shiver as much as searching for 'meatotomy' on the internet :uhoh:

Oh. My. God. :eek6:

That doesn't make me shiver though... It made me recoil in a sort of "OMFG WTF IS THAT>!!"!?" way, but I didn't shiver. :)
