Spam email whats the point?

I mean there`s literally billions of spam emails being sent every week to people who just instantly delete them. Whats the point why do people bother? Surely enough people aren`t stupid enough to actually ever follow any of the links and then pay out money so why bother?

I believe 1 in 4 people (who have internet access, I assume) has at a point bought something advertised by spam email. Number might be a bit off, but it was surprisingly high anyway.

If there wasn't a % of mornons reading and acting on them they wouldn't do it.

Enough people are stupid, although nieve is probably a better word for it.

It only takes 0.01% of people who recieve them to actually follow the link to make it worthwhile.

Pop by some boards on this forum and you'll find the number of idiots is actually much higher than that number

Why? Because the cost compared to the number of sales/replies makes it effective.

Even if just 1 in 10,000 mails gets a reply or a sale, send out a million emails and you'll get 100 back as sales. These days most are sent out with massive botnets infected by trojans. Assuming a typical home ADSL botnet drone can send out 3 mails a second, a botnet of 100 can send out about 26 million mails per day.

Even if the rate is just 1 in 100,000 - that could still mean 260 sales.

Some guy made 750 000$ A WEEK by selling stuff trough junkmail. So yeah. Its very much worth it.

I think there is still opportunity in spam. If people are making money with those badly spelt, 3 year old level grammar letters, then imagine what properly thought out and professionally formatted spam could make.
