sound probs in cs 1.3

My sound works fine in the new counterstrike.... until i attempt to join a team. When I first join a server i am put in as a spectator and i can hear evrything thats going on. as soon as get rid of the console and click ok to select a team, my sound disappears and does not return, even though the game plays fine. any suggestions??

Try turning hardware support for EAX/a3d on/off in options.

just checked and it does the same when playing Team Fortress Classic but not when i play normal half-life
