I'm noticing a distinct degredation of sound quality coming out of my PC. Just suddently. Like the sound's coming from a distance / reduced volume. Picking up background static.

Speakers / amp are fine. Have tested them on another PC and hooked them up to the DVD/TV - no problems.

Checked the leads and connections - all dandy.

Its quite an old sound card. Do they just wear / burn out after a while ?

Anyone recommend a good sound card thats not expensive ? I'd be looking to hook it up to a 7-speaker Dolby Digitial / Dolby Pro Logic system.

Well, they do last for ages, but eventually all things wear out.

Luckily for you, a new soundcard costs less then a pack of ciggies these days :D

Maybe you're going deaf you old fart.

qft!

Lamp - is there a CPC near you? They are/have done a deal on sound cards very recently. Like Toh said, they're cheaper than a packet of fags.
