Soul Calibur II

Opinions please.

I've got the UK GC version. First thing I did was buy a PS2-GC pad adaptor. The GC D-Pad does not do diagonals. It just won't oblige at all. Anyway it's OK with a dual-shock although I'd have preferred it if my PS2 ASCII fighting pad worked with the adaptor.

The game is cool but not much different to SC afaics so far.

Somebody with more experience tell me more please...

Not a HUGE leap from the original Dreamcast version but that is due more to the DC being way ahead of its time more than anything else.

It is easily the best 3D beat-em-up out and if you play the Weapon Master Mode you'll unlock some nice secrets (characters, weapons etc)

I've got all the versions out (GC/XB/PS2) and also have Hori Arcade Sticks for all three machines too. The Cube pad is easily the best for this game IMHO but a true gamer would get the Hori Sticks.

I loved SC on the Dreamcast... you're right Ono it was waaay ahead of its time and came to a sad demise.

I'm tinkering with the idea of buying this but I played the demo on the PS2 and y'know it doesn't feel the same way it did on the DC.

I'm not convinced it would be a worthwhile purchase having done it all on the DC. I feel I would just be buying the same game with a few additional characters in it.

Not putting the game down in any way, just think I've been there seen it and done it before. :(

Gamecube pad sucks, N64 was far better. Change isn't always good :(

I stand by my opinions.

The GC pad is easily the best option if you are using pads.

Edge magazine agreed IIRC.

I prefer the PS2 pad for beat 'em ups - although the cube pad is surprisginly good at it. As an all round pad the cube pad wins by such a large mile it's a joke.

And Ono is right, the only way to play is with a stick. It's damn near impossible to get "good" with a pad.

Been palyign the PS2 version of SCII. Bit too easy for my liking, for example i did almost all of the Extra time trials with....Kani....i think....using only square and triangle, whilst watching my computer monitor (i.e. not even noticing)

Weapon master mode was a bit more challenging but, i feel, it isn't, and never will, better the original....which rocked

Still debating whether I should buy this for the GC. I've got a DC and I love the game.

On a side note does anyone know how you're meant o actually "finish" the original Soul Calibur?

I've got the weapons master and completed the story mode..kind of I've done all the fights and even the Chaos III part several times with various characters including the weapons master. I've unlocked everything too but still I haven't got anything that indicates I've finished the game. Is there an ending or have I finished the game?

Got SC2 for the GC today. Pure class. :)

The characters are a little odd though. There's no Sigfreid as such, just Nightmare with his outfit. I know they're technically the same person but it's just....odd.

I like thye story mode though, some levels are just damn impossible until you find the right character to do them with.

Seigfreid and Nightmare are pretty much the same. Looks a bit weird doing Nightmare's 6K with the Seigfreid model though cos he doesn't have that enormous fist :)

And can anyone do Cervantes' iGDR ????

Erm...what's the iGDR move?

I looked through the moves and couldn't find one with those initials or even just called iGDR.

I've had to stop now cos Damini want to watch Neighbours.

Oh well, only 20 mins.....
