TBH

As some of you know, I've already done this whole "toy pda/phone hybrid" thing already with an orange SPV...

there's only one thing to be said for it.... only do it if the thing is gonna be your primary phone...

I have an orange everyday 50 contract, which i got an SPV on, (convenient)... the things's great... mobile MSN etc... no where near as buggy as anyone made out... but there's one thing that's killing it for me... it's not my main contract phone... no free texting etc... no x-network minutes... everyone has my main mobile number... so if i wanted to use it i had to carry both mobiles around... it was just pointless.....

I've gone back to carrying one ultra-compact main phone (which from a week or so will be a new Nokia 6100 w/ 50 x-network calls and 500 texts a month for £15 a month.

Orange used to offer a service were you could move your number over and keep a similar contract, that you already had.

Many people did this from a Virgin Mobile number as they then had no monthly fee...

I don't know if they still offer this

You do realise that the sim card is the only thing that keeps the details of what network/contract etc. you're on?

Why not put your other sim in the spv... if it's locked, unlock it?

Not WAP pr0n you lamut.... proper videos. Unless you meant the same thing?

Only problem is that it apparently eats the batteries (not literally huhu) when you play movies. To be expected really. The resolution isn't that great either.

But to be honest, this is the shit Im talkin' about.

(Please note: the above is hosted on a piece of twine)

well

two points.

porting my contract over from t-mobile :
t-mobile won't actually let me??? :p or to be more precise... they would have, but i'd still have to pay them their monthly fee... so let's see, paying twice as much for one phone - not really an option...

also i want to KEEP the orange everyday 50
this contract isn't available anymore
it's a bloody bargain...

what's replaced it is basically orange's "my plan" thing... wherein you have to have a 30 mins a month anytime, anynet contract for £15 a month... and then bolt on 1000 mins evenings and weekends... for another £16 a month... ie a total of £31 a month for less minutes than i already have for £14-£15.50 a month???? i think not!

SIM card thing that nath bought up??

yes i do fucking realise a sim card is the only thing keeping your account details... do you realise tho that if you put someone elses sim in the SPV, unlocked or not... it won't work... ? bcos it accesses stuff through orange's gprs portal... it might work as a phone. but every single feature that makes it what it is would be killed, or at least this is what i've heard from someone who tried.

Ahh, gprs.. forgot about that. What other features are there that link to the network though?

pr0n, on a mobile! Welcome to the 21st Century!

How does that work, you gonna download them onto your phone via wap, or you got one of those data transfer cables you can link with your PC?

I'm curious, cos that is a lovely phone!

I presume that mobile can do proper internet, instead of just wap.

Both really.

You get a docking station with it which acts as both a charger (you get a seperate charger anyway) and a "sync station". With the phone in the dock you can copy stuff across from your PC, synchronise Outlook contacts, etc.

Or, you can download stuff via GPRS. Expensive though - especially as the SPV is the only phone Orange is doing the "£6 a month max" deal on.

The flap looks fragile, best put the phone down during the vinegar strokes.

supposidly a current problem with the p800 is the flap button have a tendency to crack the screen resulting in a very expensive repair

Yeah, I heard that too. Definitely a concern.

I'll probably invest in some kind of screen protector at some point, if it will help (or even if it exists).

sorry if my reply seemed a little OTT, but you are correct... SPV does "proper" net access... mini internet explorer thing... msn messenger... yahoo... icq... all available... email... yada yada... and none of that will work sans the SIM that comes with it. this by the way is why you don't see SPV's for sale handset-only...

Wolfeeh, does the SPV run normal PocketPC apps, or do they have to be redesigned for the smaller screen?

Sorry to rain on your parade somewhat but the 9910, like virtually all of Nokias phones, is the exact same software in a different case. :(

It hasn't even got a colour screen for Christ's sake! Are you living in the 90's or something?!

Hmmm, only problem with having a phone like that is you'd prolly get gang raped on the street for it.

Yeah, true. At least with the old phones (3330 in my case) you can batter them round the head with it in self-defence.

...

PR : some apps run straight away, some require min. modification by the developers...

Zap : I wanted that phone... until i realised how big it actually is, and that B) i knew two people who'd had them and broken them already... kinda left a little off it regarding its reliability... so i plumped for the more traditional Nokia 6100 :p

the 8910 is not big, its a similar size to the 8310, and tbh i did check reliabilty as my friend owns a phone repair shop and he told me they are as reliable as any of the other reliable phones, meaning all phones break, he also added they are not as bad as the 8210 (the dreaded screen faults).

I disagree that they are the same phone in a different casing, the 8910 has many more features, yes its similar, but thats because people like the nokia menu system and are used to it.

I also have no need for a colour screen on my phone, I could have had any phone in the shop, but i wanted the 8910.

That is all
