I'm having a go at the trial again. In game as Svarty II.

There's so many of my old characters still there... none made it past trial. Fun! I like how they now try to drum into noobs that they are going to lose lots ships and that it shouldn't stop them playing.

- I might give this Factional Warfare a go (Minmatar). Any tips?

FW is great - just run cheap ships and don't worry about losing them. Most people I knew ran Cruisers in FW.

I'm running the tutorials atm. There's a lot more to eve than I remember, and it's nice to see all the manufacturing, scanning and other stuff you didn't used to get to do at low level (albeit with civilian modules that don't work outside the tutorial, for the most part).

bear in mind you don't even need decent probing skills to run anomalies - just alot of luck and patience to find them.

I think eve is massively better now than it was last year. Whilst the large scale fight lag is atrocious and they're struggling to get stability in some regions the overall scope of the game and the ease with which you get into things has massively improved.

Try and get some rigging skills asap as most small and medium rigs are relatively cheap and some of the cheaper, looked down upon ships can do some monstrous stuff with rigs and a bit of care.

cyclones for instance are often under-rated and when fitted with an active shield tank & autocannons can make a mess of anyone's day :)

load up with lots lost and lots of patience.

you can technically become a useful pvp'er in a few weeks but but your gonna have to be very careful who you start to tackle.

if you want some decent skills to properly pvp with then expect anywhere from 3 to 6 months depending on what ship you are going for.

and as always, do NOT pvp in a ship you can't afford to lose, because you will guaranteed lose it and many many MANY more ships.

screw taking up the learning skills at the start, play the game for fun first and foremost, and having to spend the first month waiting for the learning skills to finish training isn't fun for anyone no matter how time effective it is.

so start training skills you have a immediate use for and wait with the learning skills until you have a ok skillbase so you can actually do something.

i didn't start my learning skills until i had over 10 million skillpoints which might have been pushing it..

so with that in mind, dont bother with any level 5 skills until you do have the learning skills. you can make some pretty good fittings with just level 4 skills.

run missions, level 2 missions can be done easily in a decent frigate, level 3 to unless its one of them "insane" missions wich i can't remember the name of.

what race you pick is not that important other then what playstyle you like.

amarr is all about lazor pew pew, gallente is the mother of drone fighters, minmatar is the jack of all trades and probably the most time consuming in terms of skillpoints needed to be viable later on, and caldari is mainly about missile spamming.

this is probably as much info i can give and safely say that its still valid, havent played in nearly 2 years so wont go into any deep stuff :)

oh and did i mention that you should stock up with lots of patience?

Do the free trial, generally you can update to paid account with an offer afterwards.

Do the tutorials.

Talk to people - not randoms - hit up some of the guys in this forum that are active. There was a FH channel at some point but don't know if it's active. tbh from what Marc has been posting recently, train up Propulsion Jamming a level or two and you'll be useful to him :)

New player stuff is simpler these days, race and stuff doesn't matter. Just pick something that you think will be fun and go from there.

I know this is gonna sound nerdy but honestly try to develop a narrative for your character. One of the reasons why Marc's posts are so interesting is the sandbox effect of a story. eve can produce stories much better than anything out there. So try to pay attention to that and really think it through.

To make isk quickly and easily use sites like eve-survival.org.

Also decide whether you're sticking with your racial ship type or whether you want to switch.

For instance if you rolled caldari and want to go minmitar don't get too attached to the caldari missions - you're better moving over to minmatar space and starting to grind the minnie missions so you get sexy fat loots that you can use with loyalty points.

try and train destroyer1 and salvaging 3/4 when you get a chance, then buy a destroyer and fit it with tractor beams and salvagers. get into the habit of looting everything and salvaging everything from missions for maximum iskies

Once you're in and settled pm me or post in here if you have questions - I can help out as best I can :)

Also try and find yourself a class 3 wh , i could make in 5h 400m isk from these sites and the odd time you get nice mining sites with 100k+ units of A,B,C aand sometimes 50k or so M which is very nice ;)

Excellent advice guys, cheers. Anyone got a website with the different looking ships for each race? I quite like the idea of caldari because having missles as my main skills sounds most appealing but i'm all about looking good cruising around in space so won't pick them if their ships look shite :p

IMHO the best looking ships are Amarr, but their backstory is so awful that I can never bring myself to play one. Yet.

i find most minmatar ships to look horribly unfinished, and its not the "scaffolding" most of the ships have. they just don't look like they have been thought through at all.

/edit: but the biggest problem i have with ALL EvE ships is that hardly any ship look "clean", theres always an engine or something else that look like its been put there because they could.

look at the thorax for a prime example, that single engine at the bottom just makes the entire ship look so fucking wrong.

same with the one on the stabber.... just no...

or one half of the ship is grossly bigger then the other making the proportions all wrong that way.

Ya but in space that does not matter, i like it, i think it looks more realistic, athstetics are low on the priority list when building a ship of war. Esp mini ships that were often built with what they had as they struggled against the amarr repression. Ships look like that cos its how all the bits fitted together to make a working ship, Bar the amarr and few ships stated they were ment to look a certain way.

This is why I think you are wrong.

When a ship looks like the design was done using drinking-straws the whole idea of "structure" and "hull" as numbers goes out of the window.

To clarify: They look like they are illogical. That you could shoot the bits off them. In my theory it would be much more structurally sound to be more like a sphere.

So is Eve still a game a complete newb can join and make a good go of or is it one of those that its been out so long your gunna get rolled over whatever you do?

My only experience of it was in the very early closed beta stages but it was so incomplete back then I was put off for good and have never given it a 2nd look. However just reading through a few threads on various eve forums it sounds amazin and i have a massive urge to play.

I disagree my cane solo fit is able to kill anothing sub bs and most bs if not flown correctly , bestest t1 ship ever tbh :ninja:
