44 days, 13 hours, 45 mins (main char only)

44x24+13 = 1069 Hours

now I work a standard full time 37 hour working week.

1069 divided by 37 = 28.89

thats 28 weeks, the equivalent of OVER 6 months, standard working time.

Now, how much is my time worth ?

even on minimum wage in the UK, £4.20 per hour, thats £4,498 pounds you'd have to pay me to do that

average UK wage of £20k per annum, roughly £10.40 per hour, you'd have to pay me £11,117.60 in total.

the funny thing is, they are not paying me, I in fact am paying them, £6 per month.

this game takes up far too much of my time and sooner or later the party has to stop, but I dont think I'll ever sell my character, I doubt anyone would pay what it's cost me to level. :(

try looking at it this way, no matter what GAME you PLAY, you ain´t ever gonna be paid (unless of course you get a job as tester at some gamecompany ;))

was just using the money thing to try and put some perspective on time spent levelling :)

I've done the equivalent of getting up at 8.00 am and playing to 5.00pm (with an hour break for dinner) 5 days a week, for over 6 months. thats almost a second full time job on top of my first.

thats 6 months I've not spent socialising with friends, spending time with my family, or giving my girlfriend the attention she deserves. not to mention the hundreds of little jobs around the house I keep putting off :p

This game is an addictive time-sucker, and I'm starting to realise that more and more now.

Fortunately for me, I'm at an age where most of my time IS my own now, and I'm damn glad there wasn't games around like this when I was in my teens/twenties or else I would never have left the house and had all the fun I did in those years.

but I would suggest to anyone who spends a lot of time here to think carefully, as it is a lot of time to spend *alone*, hunched over a computer in a room.

Go out ! get drunk ! see bands! meet girls ! (or boys) see the sunlight !

get more of a life than me :)

Hmmm, I don't think playing DAoC is keeping people from getting drunk, as far as I can tell ;)

been there done that, and I'm just 21, DAoC i all I do, and it is all I want to do, girls are expensive, and I don´t like to drink (don´t like drunk people either for that matter) people that gets drunk becomes silly, I can´t stand silliness when it´s due to drinking :)

oh a girlfriend would be nice, but I´m a bit of a romantic, and flowers and chocolates are WAY expensive :)

I have work already, have a good one aswell.
I spend 8-12Hours a day working.
earning aprox 25000SEK = 1,725.8UK£

I have 3 hobbies, "spela skinnflöjt" ( a swedish instrument ), and playing online games and beer.

DAOC just happens to one of them.

I look at it as a hobby, i try not to let it control my life. Even though i must admit i have cancelled more then one planned pub evening to stand defending a relic.
Or at the numerous alb nighttime raids, which seem to have stopped atm :)), i have used "flexible working hours" and slept a few hours longer in the morning.

to me this kinda games mean dedication.
Just as dedicating your time to a soccer team if u play soccer.
In fact DAOC imo should be just as highly considered as soccer.

2.ooo humanoids were on at one time this weekend on excal.
thus 2.000 persons with interests similar to mine was on.
and people continued to be on throughout the weelend.. and so on.
thus over time more people are dedicated to this then soccer perhaps.

This to me isnt a waste of time.
It is about putting things to perspective, what is important to "me"?.
I have no rush making a family, statistically there are more women then men anyways.
So there are shurely some left when i decide to build a family.
