Has anybody been in the position of being married with a baby and then been sacked? If so could you relay your experiences with the benefits system.

I haven't, but my immediate suggestion would be to try and find another job asap.

Get yourself down the DSS, tbh they are pretty helpful if you look all sorry foryourself, and they dont take long to sort you out money as you have a child.

If you own your house, they may also pay part towards your mortgage, or at least part of the interest to save you getting repo'd.

Basically the DSS will give you all the advice you need, they will also head you to your job centre to start the signing on process.

Then probably to the local council to also claim coucil tax benefits, and also if you are in rented / council housing to claim housing rebates.

Im taking this as you are in the UK.

Next, as said, get a job, register with every agency in town, look in the local rags, or maybe phone companies who do similar work to your old job.

One warning, you will be asked why you were sacked, and they will also ask your employer!! On this basis you may not be eligable for UB40 (dole) but because you have a child, you will instead get income support, hardly any difference there tbh.

Good luck, just be patient with the dole, they aint the most happening ppl in the world.
