You get to meet all your old friends, who you've lost contact with over the years and haven't bothered to try and look up 'cause they were all dull!!

Why wouldn't you do that?!

Because they're for the most part dull wankers who you dont actually want to meet or talk to ever again?

After 10 mins of talking with these 'old friends' your reminded why you have not bothered to stay in touch for the past ten years.

Agreed. You're sounding a bit like my dad Yaka, with this "in my day..." point of view ;) :D.

My girlfriend's little sister and her peer group (sort of 15-17) are the huge driving force of these sites; you're not cool if you don't have one, so all the kids have them. After school, they are simply glued to an MSN / Bebo combo.

It's like MSN/ICQ/irc back in the day - it was the tool of geeks and you were a social outcast if you used something called the "internet", but now internet chat has been adopted with open arms by the cool preppy times as it's yet another tool to gossip, scandal and talk about who fucked who up the ass at the latest teen party.... but now you can PHOTOGRAPH THE ASS-FUCKING, and upload it onto your social networking site. It's also introduced a whole new level to bullying.

My mates also updated their bebo with blogs and picture when they toured Australia - it was good to see drunken nights and for everyone to stay in touch and pass comment on photos and such like.

That's why I started using Facebook; when I was travelling it was the standard way of keeping in touch, and although I didn't use Facebook for my blog, my blog does integrate nicely. Having said all that, I think Facebook has already peaked and its usefulness diminishes every day with all the shit applications poisoning the well.

i like facebook. i don't use it that much anymore though

for some reason facebook seems to be one of those things that everyone who doesn't use it feels the need to question it's very existence. i don't get it.

Stalkerbook was ok but it's starting to get on my nerves due to the endless spam saying 'xxx has done some random survey, click here to do it too!!!'.

Need to sort out my profile at some point so I don't get that rubbish.

Oh noes! Myspace! If i even go near a myspace site the CIA will listen to my thoughts!

*zzt*umm, no we won't.*zzt*

Hmm, maybe not.

But, yeah, they can be used to some form of communicae. Bet a lot of people think this place is weird.

Or perverse.

Or dangerous to national security.

I have(had) one of these stupid things when I was at college, logged into it about four times since I left two years ago, just find it a bit boring.

If I want to talk to someone I'll phone them or go visit them, at a stretch I might use MSN but thats usually only a last resort.

Sure, if its what you want to do then fair enough, my sister uses it like a social personal organiser, shes still always outside, but when she has to come home or the weather's crap she'll happily chat to friends on myspace or whatever it is.

Obviously there are extremes. Idiots, lowlives and sad wierdo's are on there, but there is also a significant number of decent people on there too, so its six of one and half a dozen of the other.

If you dont like it, dont use it like me, but if you do, I dont think you're in any danger of contracting a myspace-transmitted disease or anything, so whats the problem ?
