At work we use norton ghost to keep OS images and then write them to the drive whenever we want to change - we are in the testing lab though so we need clean installs regularly. XP had the ability to just install next to another MS OS and set up a bootloader automatically without any trouble. I'd imagine vista probably does but I wouldnt put money on it, seems like a steaming pile of crap to me so far, and I've used it quite heavily for driver testing and whatnot. Talk about nannying.

"Are you SURE you want to connect to the internet, it might contain nasty kiddy porn or deebs throwing up over lecter" "yes" "Are you SURE you want to go to that web page, it has EMBEDDED HTML!!!!!! OMG THE HORROR"

Anyway, sarcasm aside, its more patronising than some of the ***** on this forum and slower than a dead person with no legs if you put the candy on anything but a fairly recent machine. Personally I just put the windows classic theme back on.

a complete test version of a cutting edge OS....

Sorry, missed this earlier. Dont make me fucking laugh. It might have been cutting edge 5 years ago, but it doesnt really do anything that you cant get for free in many linux distros and as you get as standard in OS X. Windows has always been promising but due to the shit way MS handles software development it is always disgustingly late and half the headline features are cut out.

If it was cutting edge, it would use LESS hdd space, LESS memory, LESS CPU cycles and have BETTER memory management, on top of all the cool new stuff they said it would have 2 years ago. Instead its fucking bloatware to the most extreme degree with not much more than a reskin on windows xp and a lot of security thrown in as an afterthought.

Just started the Vista installation from within XP and chose a new installation, pointing it at my other blank NTFS partition. Did it itself, however as i said before, it did bugger up GRUB.

Same here, just pointed the Vista installer at my D:\ drive and it set up multi-booting on its own.

Gonna uninstall it, because I can't get the sound to work at all.

I'll try again with RC1 when it's released.

Use the help to search for User Account Control - it's bloody annoying, and the option to switch it off is hidden well, deep inside the secpol.msc (iirc).

I got fed up trying to get it off the official site. I ended up getting it speedily using bittorrent, then installed it using the official serial.

Seems OK so far. Only real fuck-up is that there are no HP drivers for my printer yet, and I have to run InDesign in administrator mode.

The negative comments I've heard about it remind me of the same ones we got when XP was coming out (and 98.... and 95... and 3.11.... etc.)

Direct X 10 is going to be Vista only I believe, so we may as well all get used to it.

1870Mb now, the speed has really picked up. When it began it was about 60k, now I think its up to the maximum speed my 2Mb connection will allow.
