Pls no flames

I'm new to this and want to know whats wrong with using AOL as my ISP?

They don't kick me off as long as I'm using it and delays seem OK.

I don't know any better though so please educate me...... what am I missing else where ?

Heh, lets see.

Pros

They don't have a cutoff, and their download/upload is pretty good for dialup

Cons

They are very uncool, and their adverts get on my nerves.

Their routing can be very unusual, leading to high latency (bad for gamers).

cons: You have to use their f'ing shit software to connect.... no, obviously as a user you're too dumb to be able to configure DUN yourself....

although TBH the lack of cut off seriously makes up for all the cons.... If I were stuck with dial up again I'd seriously consider using them simply for the lack of cut off.

Yup when I was on 56k I never considered changing from AOL to a different ISP.

Always found ping pretty good. 150ish on jolt servers which isn't too bad for 56k considering I lived out in the sticks. The software is an arse but you get used to it. Doesn't take up huge amounts of resources and is normally happy to just sit minimised in the task bar. Also nice of them to offer free months whenever you try to quit - not that I'd exploit such a service :)

Long as you make sure the volume is turned down when the "Welcome to AOL" voice blares out you can avoid most exbarassing situations. But would I use AOL as an ADSL ISP? Would i fuck...
