We had mass LDs at Erasleigh with probably 300-350 people in the same zone; thought the new hardware could easily handle that many.

didnt old server standardly crashed with 200+ ppl in one zone?

Same on our side, was 140 or so non anon when we left Beno, was under 100 left after the Eras crash.

But it was less lag than usual i think, previously I could not go nowhere near the lords room, not I could go all the way up in the end there.

Excal was hell tho, 3-6sec delay, the usual stuff...

There were about 100 albs on Renaris during which I had no problem moving around and targeting. Previously I'd be perma-stunned with my screen updating every 3-5 seconds. But that's probably my gfx card upgrade (GF2 > ATI9800) :p

Eras was going ok with the main alb force there... but as soon as mids came up the hill > Slideshow > LD

Yes, most of it's the gfx engine. Part of the problem also is none of the character models are pre-cached in memory so as you approach an enemy force it has to load all that from disk (which results in the inital lag when meeting a large force head on) - some tweaks in a later version will allow you to change those settings (but ya need a ton of memory for it to work well). However end of the day most of it is down to shitty client, they really need to improve it if they want to realise their dream of 'large battles' being the norm.

Server upgrade should fix the amount of lag ghosts etc we've been seeing, also wierd lag in zones when nothing else is about etc. Hopefully mean less zone crashs.

You could almost hear the server creaking...

Was bloody fun though. Cheers alby people.

My take on it was that they rolled the server back hardware wise too, back to the single processor.

Here's the bit the tin cans might not believe:

It wasn't a relic raid :D

We just went out to be as annoying as possible. Ozird of KN was leading and a jolly wheeze it was too. I think it started out as a New Era night out but everyone thought what a jolly jape it would be to all hit the frontiers together.

Main reason we ended up at Excal is because all the bloody tin cans had gone there and there was nobody left to fight anywhere else. We even waited around killing guards so more peeps could catch up and join the lagfest :D

The Beno hotel services were very nice too. Steady supply of Albs to feast on.

Fun night, and big thanks to Oz for taking the pain.

Come down again roo i can test the new server in a real good way, all stand outside excal and i get 8 vp wizzies to test it for you :p

I had effects off of course, but I wouldn't rely on VP to kill that size of force. Its one shot each, even if you have several wizzies you might get some nice spam but you're not going to do anything more than be a hindrance.

After that its amnesia and nearsight and Albs get your heads down til the guards pop again. Which is exactly what happened.

Meantime, Mids got door one down and were hammering away on door 2. Erm, and giggling a lot.

We'd been short of seers so I was out as my healer, but I'd much rather have taken out the old gimp.

well, we kind of had to stay in excali at that time. You had a force big enough to take the relics, if we went elsewhere, and you never know with mids. employing dirty tactics, like hiding 100 trolls in the woods, instead of just coming clean and doing alarm clock raids like the rest of us! :D

I'd love to have seen the various Alb alliance channels when you were down to only having one keep left on your frontier :D

Except that even a few VP wizards firing at once will make the server keel over \0/

It's the reserve Albion defence tactic :D

The new server is ok, it's just the poor client and graphics engine.

It's abou time people stopped blaming GOA for things out of their control.
