LOL, sorry guys, I've spent the last 2 years around americans online, especially in EQ! I've also had 2 American girlfriends, so I kind of just, progressed into some american sayings ;)

It's kind of bad when I start going 'mom' or 'color' lol!

By its kinda pathetic that all he can say is:

bloody yanks

or such like.

Man, ure one racist guy aren't ya!

*sighs* to think we have such people in Britain, I bet he supports chelsea or some other london team, has a bald head and beats people up after football games

(I'm not saying all bald men are thugs btw ;))

i do love the way that karam is always right and everbody else who disagrees with him is a twat/nob etc etc........

Karam look at DAoC u get lag from 50vs50 and the graphics in SWG are gona be better! maybe DAoC is hosted on crap servers compared to SWG ones when it comes out...but still

SWG aint going to be out in November. Well, maybe November 2003.

So called "Beta" testers are currently testing character creation, and wandering around one planet (out of 8), where they cannot pick up or use objects of any kind.

Raph Koster (head guy on SWG) has been quoted as saying he wished the marketing guys would not call it "Beta" because it's nowhere near that.

Original launch date was Autumn 2002, then December, now Lucasarts/Verant are refusing to quote a date again. I would be surprised if we see it before mid 2003.

That said, I am looking forward to SWG. Nothing else seems to be even attempting to follow the groundwork that UO lay in avoiding the level-treadmill/pvp-fragfest issues that all other MMOGs seem to get trapped in.

Oh, and 50vs50 framerate and response on DAOC is due to a graphics engine that doesn't scale well, nothing to do with connectivity or even lag. For that matter framerate is *never* the result of any netcode or server capacity - graphics rendering is a purely client side process.

If the development priority on DAOC was framerate, then a higher framerate would have been achieved. Simple as that.

Other games (on and offline) can manage 100 mobiles on-screen just fine. DAOC simply isn't optimised for large numbers of characters, this allows pve small group combat to be a lot prettier than it otherwise would be; but clearly, we are paying the price in large scale RvR.

That's not to say connection lag would not eventually become a problem if the graphics bottleneck were removed, but that isn't where daoc is now. If we did get to that state, you'd see evidence of it through character 'warping' and slow response times on spells and styles, you would not see lower framerates.

Who knows, maybe SI will improve matters.

According to Mythic the updated gfx engine in SI vastly improves framerates.

I sure hope they use this opportunity to get it right :)

Don't feed the trolls! :)

EQ is a really really really long levelling treadmill...

If you want some interesting rants about EQ try:

tweety.bowlofmice.com

written by Tweety who was a CS rep (volunteer) on one of the EQ servers...

(and yes you probably know her by a different name)

I will definately play DAoC and stay on excalibur for a LONG time to come... can't wait to see alchemy/spellcrafting/guildhousing/shrouded isles/next xp pack/etc.

There are just too many nice people on excal to leave it... and that's not a joke, i mean it :)

Seems nowadays people focus so much on the negative sides of other people and even start threads whining about other people starting whining threads :)

You won't see a serious flame from me here fast, neither a 'goodbye daoc' variation...neither a realm change... im just having too much fun. :)

As far as FPS is concerned...

Just installed an ATi Radeon 9700 on the main PC and it breezes 50v50 battles with as yet upgraded Ram and mb. So I guess its only a question of pixel-shunting.

As far as the Yanks are concerned...

As to anyone taking a pop at the Yanks...nowhere anywhere else in the world will you be made more warmly welcome as a visitor by so many people. OK, so in the main they pretty clueless about whats going on in the world outside, but no more so than anyone living on a council estate in Toxteth who spends his or her life flicking between Brookie, Corrie or some crappy "Reality TV" production and calls it quality viewing.

As far as Karam is concerned...

How long playing SWG (when it eventually arrives) will it take for you to start slagging off every aspect about that game? The most important aspect of any game you play isn't the uberness of the graphics, but the people you play with - unless you are a lonely sad bastard who can't make friends (not pointing any fingers here). On this last point I have no experience of UO, so I may be off the mark here, but is that game more LSBS (Lonely Sad Bastard Society) friendly than DaoC? And is it more "I OwNz U" and "1337" orientated? I've seen a lot of good players migrate from UO to DaoC...but by the same token a helluva lot of arrogant ignorant self-centred twats have as well....

Karam....ooohhhhh Karam, where are you Karam? :)

*wonders about the lack of replies from the smart ass*

Maybe you've finally realised Karam, no-one likes you...your sad, your all alone in the world and whatever you say means fook all on here.

Karam, you bore me...

Get out of DAOC and go back to where-ever you came from :p

:twak:

Buh-bye Karam, you are the weakest link!
