So...perfection and happiness.

I've been thinking, as i usually do on a hangover'ish sunday, and two prominent ideas have been swirling around in my head like a q-tip in a flushing toilet.

One is of perfection and the definition of it.

I find, as a personal belief, that perfection is used too loosely these days. Be it in a job, game, life, whatever, i find that nothing is ever perfect, but the definition for perfect is this:

If someone came to you and told that this, what you are feeling, is perfection, and you would feel satisfied with the notion, then it is as perfect as it can.

So while perfection, may be a distant and even unachievable goal, it isn't the perfection itself that makes things perfect, but the personal satisfaction of the result, or situation, at hand.

Other thing i've been thinking is rather simple:

It's easy to smile when you have nothing to lose.

This reflects mostly to my situation in life. While not perfect(hih) and i have basically nothing to lose (Although that could be disbuted ofcourse), i still smile. And the reason is, that when you have nothing, you have nothing to worry about, and in many cases(not all), it is far easier to life a life of no worry, then a complete life with a complete of lists that might go wrong.

Ofcourse friends and such are things that one might lose, but when you have good enough friends, it's not really an issue of worry.

That all, just wanted to share those two things and give some discussion seeds :D

I wouldn't say perfection is used too much or too loosely but rather other people simply think of it in a different way to you.

Personally, I think of it in the idea of opportunity cost. If you can have the most desired thing, instead of the next most desirable thing, then you've struck the perfect mark. For example, if you've snagged an alrite wife but mrs.minogue is on the top of your most desired list - then that isn't perfection.

Then there's the idea that if nothing else is attainable for you, then why can't the thing you have be perfection for you? If we constantly thought, 'wow i've worked years for this house but the one down the street which may be built in five years time will be better' then you're life will be very negative indeed.

Just my two cents.

Bugz i think we're in the same ballpark, just playing different games.

If i got you right, perfection is the need/lack of for better stuff that you have. While i think perfection is if you are content in your situation.

I think.

Basically though we're saying the same thing, that if you're absolutely happy with what you got, things are perfect.

tris-, while i get your point, don't you think that even if something isn't a part of our lives, you can still discuss it and give opinion on it? Not saying you should or shouldn't, just saying.

personally i cant, because i dont strive for perfection or expect anything to be perfect so therfore ive never had any experience with it.
meaning i cant give a valid view on it :)

Yeah, just what i thought you meant.

You have a valid point, that when talking of such(i don't strive for it either), you have an advantage and clearer view if you have experience on it.

Still nice to discuss and contemplate :D

Well, like you Toht; I've already been at the bottom of the 'how shitty it can get' chain (Bankrupt, homeless, no food, no friends, bad depression etc) so I know what it's like to know that nothing else that can happen will make things worse, but it's somehow all got back onto track; can't say I can define what "perfection" is in general, but I know perfection for me would be something along these lines:

Good job (In my eyes, hard), static relationship, static place to live, good close of group friends and no stress (that would be perfect to me) - Hell, I wouldn't turn down £88m either, but you know.

I think everyone has their own description of 'perfection' so there really is no way to 'measure it'

Heh, answered both in one :D
