ok, a bit of back ground first. both me and my sister have never really got on with my dad, we didn't see much of him at all from the ages of me being 3 and my sister 1 up to me being 15/16, my parents broke up, he dumped me, my mum and my sister in Germany and my granddad had to travel out there to pick us up. anyway, we had something of a reconciliation when i was 15 and all seemed to be "ok" my mum wasn't happy about it but gave us the choice, at first it seemed ok, i would come down south and visit him every couple of months, eventually meeting my wife down here and then moving down here myself. my dad left the army just as i moved down here and i noticed a change in him, he started acting strangely, up to the point where i decided to try not to see him (even though i lived less than a mile away) anyway it turns out he as cheating on his wife who eventually left him. he has now since re-married and moved away to trance. both me and my sister thought, problem solved but no, he sent us a letter saying he didn't want anything to do with us and that he never wanted either of us in the first place, i really didn't care tbh, my granddad was my father figure and as far as i was concerned the matter was over with. my sister met someone and has had a child with them (top bloke) everything seemed happy. recently though my dad has been sending my sister threatening emails and text messages basically saying he knows where she lives and knows where my niece will be going to school. my sister went to the police, who weren't much use (surprise surprise) they didn't go as far as to say "move house" but they may as well have done. this is not practical as my family have lived in the same village for 100+ years and there is no way any of us (i am going back in a months time) are going anywhere. she has seen a solicitor and is currently trying to take out an injunction but what else can we actually do? there is no way i would want to tackle my dad if he did turn up (ex para, boxed and played rugby for the army, still runs full marathons) and there is no way my stepfather could do anything either (Latin teacher :p)

anyway, other than the injunction is there anything else that can be done, at what point would the police actually get properly involved, with protection or actually having him arrested? and does the fact that he now lives in France have any bearing on it? as far as i know he is still a British national. my sister is terrified of what he will do

apologies for length and shitty spelling/grammar

Shit that is pretty bad, I feel for you bud. It might be cold comfort but the chances of him turning up and doing anything are pretty small, he probably just feels empowered by making these threats. Get the injuction, take it to the police and make them well aware of the nature of these threats. Once you have the injunction they are legally obliged to take you seriously. Also get the school to be extra vigalant, again they are legally obliged to to take extra measures if a threat has been made against a child. Show them the injunction and don't take no for an answer.

Get some kinda weapon installed in her house in case he shows up? often they are just empty threats, but if he did show up someday. then she would be able to scare him away/or stall him to the police showed up. stun gun, pepper spray something like that. its a shame he does that. if he didn't want any of you in the first place. why bother threating you now?

Reap what you sow. Bad things happen to bad people. (not that I am saying I agree with your father's actions)

Aww a threat, how cute.

Ban inc, I saw your 'foad' before you edited.

I just love the way he his a hypocrit, making out that threatening letters are bad (which they are) and then telling me to die irl on an internet forum? Gotta love the hypocrasy xD

Maybe you should learn in your life that if you treat other people nicely - you will get the same back.

4 edits - it must be a record mater ;)

It would be wiser to just ignore the little fucking shithead etc. etc. insert more verbal abuse, till a mod comes to delete that crap. I hoped nobody would answer...I hoped :(

(Vote Liloe for mod, I have no private life and live on FH all day long =)) )

I am just more mature than most people on this forum - unfortunatly they are too narrow-minded to see that.

Mate all i can say, is you sir. Are a fucking tit. If you don't have anything decent to post dont post fuck all. Some people.

Raven mate, I really don't know. Is your dad capable of this? Get a restraining order on him, there's nothing else you can really do (as far as i know, i have no knowledge in legal advice though) until he actually fulfills the threats. Good luck man, hope it works out.

Mature? Saying someone is bad, when you don't even know this person?

And this other thread you whined about them not being able to come up with constructive arguements. Then please tell me what you have based this up on, because it seems like you pulled it out youre own ass

I used to get threats made to me by my current GFs ex ooo about 2 years ago when I started seeing her. He used to threaten her too, even busting down her door and trying to run her off the road. We went through the proper channels, ie the police, but they were useless. They just used to give him warnings which fell on death ears. Not that im advising you to do this, but I took matters into my own hands one night, and suffice to say, hes never bothered us since. Im pretty sure you can pay to get an injunction out via the courts. We werent prepared to do this as it cost a couple of thousand.

Raven, sorry to hear that man, cant be easy for you.

As others have said, I would do everything legally possible to protect yourself.

I'd seriously advise against a weapon, even if you could bring yourself to use it on your dad, if he's an ex-para it would probably just aggravate the situation and make it a hundred times uglier.

I've only once been in the situation where I thought I might have end up exchanging blows with my dad, not a happy situation at all. Best bet is to just be as careful as you can, keep doors locked at all times, get a latch/chain thing or whatever its called so you can check who is outside before you open the door properly, try to do what you can, no need to be paranoid, just careful :)

Like others said though, it sounds like its empty threats.

Raven,

By the sounds of it, your dad has already made some threats. What you need to do is collect some of them as evidence. Any notes he's left, letters, phonecalls that might you be able to record... anything like that.

Then take it to the police and make them aware of the threat. They probably won't be able to do much, but they should definately know about it and they can also recommend your case to whoever handles protected identities in your country.

Next contact the authority that handles protection of identities. In Sweden it's the census department of the tax agency, but that might be different where you live. Tell them your situation, and present to them any evidence you might have (even if you have no hard evidence at all you should still contact them), and any recommendations that the police might give you. They will then review your case and if they believe you and your family are truly under threat they can "lock" all access for people to find out where you live. You will get all your mail via the the tax agency (or whoever handles it). This won't help of course, unless you move houses (since your dad already knows your address etc)... so when you say you "can't move" think about what's worse - living under death threats, or moving.

Good luck!

Because randomly harassing a person over a forum while he's trying to get help on a serious topic is oh so fucking mature. Right?
And the foad was in place, sad ****.

From what ive come across I think both tort and criminal law is quite weak in this area

All I can think of is assault (threat of battery - ie violence) but unless anything major can be proved , its likely to just aggrevate the situation and initiate proceedings with your father when you probably wany as little contact as possible.

wait for tilda opinion on this one imo

edit : your in the uk right ?

just a side note, but keep records of everything

photocopy letters, with dates, save/back up text message, keep answering machine tapes, anything that is solid evidence

good luck sorting it out.

If I were you I'd try to figure out whether your old man holds a grudge against you for some reason, or whether he's lost his marbles.
If he's still sane, you might be able to simply talk him out of doing anything stupid, as a good chat can do a lot. Try to figure out what's bothering him, and see whether there's anything you can do about it. Not for your father's sake, but to get him to stop bothering you and your family.
If that doesn't work, and he's just lost it, I suppose you'd do best to just keep bothering the police, as they're bound to at least try something to help you if you push them often enough.
