So...let's step out of reality for a bit.

I like to think things. Some might have noticed this and some might even say that i shouldn't. This is quite understandable. But most of all i love to make other people think.

Usually this might be something simple as "Did you ever look at things this way", but sometimes, i like to take a moment, a real moment moment and let other people take a peek inside that, which is my brain. This, is one of those moments.

So, take a step out of this reality, forget about all things that seem normal and mundane, forget about work, school, matters of the heart and mind and step into this world.

Imagine a world where all is possible, all things spoken of and usually shrugged away as nothing but old wives tales or conspiracy theories. A world where UFOs, zombies, greatest of dreams and worst of nightmares were reality. Imagine a world where everything you think of, everything you dream and your mind could come up with, would instantly become real, not just for you, but to all humanity and universe itself.

Quite a world hmm?

Now the question doesn't lay in what would you dream of, what would you wish for or in what would you change, but it is a rather simple question. Before you answer though, think for a moment about it, let it simmer in your mind and really think about it. All the pros and cons, all the possible outcomes and all the things that could happen.

Ok? Good.

So, if a world where everything thought up would become real...would you dare to dream?

Alot harder than you think, actually something I'm not very comfortable about answering oddly enough. If you look at a dream you have (This is under the understanding that you have no control over any dream, or if you do; you do not know how to control it) - Anything you dream comes true when you dream it.

That means, if you dream of constantly falling down - you will allways fall down. Death. If you dream you're being chased, you constantly run. You know, the whole sort of thing.

I dreamt I was a character in Crash Team Racing last night (True story) and I was racing against a friend of mine, if this were to come true. It'd be scary.

i'd dream of a world where you cant dream

That means everyone would die, in this case. If what you dream comes true, and you dream no one can dream, everyone dies. Due to not existing/nothing happening.

I'd not be able to handle a world where dreams came true, as I have a slight god complex.

geeeh.. iffy subject. I'd need ages to reply properly.

Surely that world would be impossible because of contradictory thoughts? An obvious example: A thinks 9/11 was Al Qaeda, B thinks 9/11 was the US government. What happens?

In a way, this world kind of exists...

Noblok has the crux of the argument - reality is different for different people (as Joor and Malogrin so eloquently show).

On the general Cartesian principle that reality is in the eye of the beholder, then we are in a world of our own imagining. There is a chance that nothing as we logically think of it is real, and it is all a creation of our minds (yes, even you Tohtori). If this is the case, then I don't know the reason why we can't dream up hordes of invading aliens, but I guess it may be something to do with self preservation and common sense :)

Ah yes, didn't define the "dream" part fully. It was meant as in, fall asleep and dream.

OD(suprise...:D) got what i meant though.

and it is all a creation of our minds (yes, even you Tohtori)

It is one strange world though, that could dream me up :D

on second thought, i'd prolly dream that i was pressing that red button we discussed a while back :)

There was a fine example of my brain in work..ah...good times...

I would expect you to do the paradox, not someone else :( Dissapointed!

But think about it.

"Everyone" assumes that i bring in a paradox. They wait it, they expect it, they almost REQUIRE it. Then when i don't, people wonder why there's no paradox, but alas, soon there's a paradox or two around.

So, if i brought a paradox, a paradox wouldn't be needed and wouldn't come, but since i don't, they appear *nods*

my mind is too dangerous to be let loose on this world...no...really....

i'd have to do the only decent thing and shoot myself quick sharp tbh...but then, i'd have to consider that first, which unless im mistaken would make it happen....oh dear....im outta here.

I was only wanting to see some different opinions, but this is quite enough.

I agree reality is only what the minds makes of it. I mean look at Naetha's views :p obviously HEAVILY influenced by government propaganda, i mean why else would she support ID cards? :(

Beware of function creep!

Tis true - I'm a government drone brought in by Alastair Campbell to keep an eye on the likes of you lot. You'd be surprised how famous Vlad's name is in the corridors of power. Any more influence on FH and you may find him disappearing :eek6:

But then who's not to say that he's not employed by someone more senior and is actually watching me? :ninja:

Would these things become true at the moment of dreaming or only later? If the former I still think it'd be impossible, because the odds of someone appearing in several dreams at the same time seem quite high to me. You can of course assume some form of solipsism to remedy this problem. However! In your dreams you usually dream of other people as being normal people like yourself. This would imply that those people have dreams, because you dream them as being able to dream. This would then again lead to the whole world being impossible because of people appearing in several dreams at the same time.

In short: I think it's a logically contradictory/impossible world.
