Assuming I can get on it. I have the option of taking the third year of my degree in Europe, North America or Australasia, it will not count towards the final degree mark, meaning my 4th year will be high stress, but hell that's probably better for me (working under pressure etc).

ATM its between Oz and USA

On the one hand I was thinking of taking it in Oz as I really miss it and it might look good when I finally go to apply for permanent residency there, as it will show I have a keen interest in the country and will have spent two and a half or so years in total in the country before application.

BUT!

I have NEVER been to America so the idea of spending a year in the states allures me like a moth to flame! It would just be nice to see some of the sights while I am young(ish).

Alas I am torn

So FH! What would YOU do and why given the option?

You're getting misguided again.
There is no way that that land of ice you call home can be better than this most beautiful of continents down under!

Pretty much, but when you live there it's not so bad.
5°C is classified as fucking cold in most parts.

Better hurry before they dry up

:cheeky
You have no idea how close to the truth that can be...
When we live in Kilcoy, we could ski on Somerset dam all year 'round until one year there was so little rain, the shoreline had receded so much boats that had been sunk for decades began to show up through the water.

Get a room you two.

A year abroad is fantastic - I spent a year in the British Channel islands working for the civil service there as part of my degree. Lots of inbred locals, but I loved it.

Working in the states atm and loving it. If you can pick and chose where to go in the USA, go for Boston, Texas or California. Note that US college is totally different to UK university education - lots and lots of essays all the time. But if it doesn't count anyway, then go enjoy yourself :)

My cousin did USA for his, he only did 6 months. He said it was great, but he couldn't have done it for much longer. Everyone is too fake and just over the top all the time.

I don't know if you'd handle a year without stabbing every yank in site. That said, it's easy as a brit to go live in Oz for a year whenever you please, the chance to do it in America may never come round again.

I don't think I could do the US or Oz for a year chaps. Canada, *maybe*, but it depends what you're looking for doesn't it.

Texas? Fucking TEXAS??? The armpit of the fucking universe. While I'd recommend the US over Oz for a year out, its got to be in one of the civilised parts (clue, next to an Ocean). Lets face it, if you're being given that kind of opportunity, what would you prefer to say to your grandkids in 50 years time, that you lived in New York or LA for a year, or fucking redneck central? (NB. I know Austin is all right, but there a still a ton of better places to stay in the US).

If it was me, I'd choose NY. I always wanted to work there, just for a while.

Why the fuck would you want to spend all your time in a city

Get as far away from people as you can and experience Nature, that would make a good story for your grand kids.

I think wazz probably spent his year abroad up his own anus, it's dark up there and so he hasn't realised it's time to come out.

LOVE YOU GLENN!

I'd go Canada. After having been to Oz and experiencing the inability to run into a field just because you want to - because you may die of horrible fauna - would be enough to make my mind up for me.

Oh, and Canada would have stuff like decent whitewater kayaking and a fucking annoying other country next to you.

But most importantly Jeros - is DO IT :D

A year in Canada? That means youd be stuck there for the winter - u better like snow.

Better off starting there in the summer then driving down to South America.

Vancouver and Victoria are quite pleasant in the winter, more rain than snow, most years no snow at all

(something most of you could relate too)

If you're going to be going to Uni in said country, then pick Oz. Absolutely first class institutions.
