Sadly it appears my old HD is now toast.

Awesomely tho, i had a bash as seeing what would happen if i put a CD-ROM drive on the thing, amazingly it worked, the netbook recognised the drive as a usb one so now i have a CD-ROM again

Just FYI that works :p

I actually don't understand what you're talking about.

Putting cooked bread in your PC is not a good idea.

Ok

*tech support voice on*

I have an old IDE hard drive from my desktop that died, i got a ide to usb adapter to see if i could get the data off and onto my netbook, it seems the hard drive itself is dead tho.

So for shits and giggles i thought i would see what would happen if i put the adapter into one of the old CD-ROM drives i have lying around. Turns out it allows you to use an internal CD-ROM as an external one via usb.

The toast comment was obviously a piss take - ofc you can turn it into a USB drive, unfortunately the seek times suck in comparison, nice that you can do it though.

Sorry to hear your hard drive was totally buggered though :(

Jeros did you put your hard drive between two bits of bread before putting into the toaster?

One of the benefits of my job is that I've got external floppy, CD, DVD and HDD drives that connect by USB so I can reinstall software on any of a number of PC/till systems. I've *always* got a way to get data onto a system, even if I have to unplug the USB interface and plug in the drive internally. :)

Nice one on the cable though. Is it one of those that allows you to plug in SATA drives as well as IDE ones? Those cables cost more, but are SO useful.

I bought one of those, i dont even bother buying external drives anymore :D
Just buy a couple of TB drives OEM and you are good to go :)

how do i make cheese toastie in toaster?

use toastie bags. its like a bag you put the sandwich in which does not catch on fire. They are kinda shit tbh. breads kinda crushed and if you have a narrow toaster it fucks them up
