readers, please be aware that GBH with weapons / Death occurs in the video and is described in the story linked below. -tdc

Just read this and I dont normally get phased by stuff like this, but this one just makes me think how aweful it must have been. How fucked up is the woman.

It's actually not as rare an occurence as you think. I've read of several cases similar to this in the past. Broody women can become a thousand shades of crazy.

It in the spoiler tags in throd's post.

As for the ending of the video, I can half understand what the officer did - the driver of the car they were chasing was liable to end up killing himself and anyone he collided with.

On the other hand I sorta have to wonder why they were going for the driver and not the car - he didnt need to be on the bonnet of the car like that, he could've just as easily been shooting out the tyres at that range.

Unless there was more going on than is evident from the video it seems a little extreme a measure, especially as they seem to have the guy cornered at that point. Its sorta difficult to judge from the comfort of a PC though I think :)

indeed.

having said that, tbh I was thinking that the police could have taken out the car many times during the video if they has been a little more on the ball. jumping on to the bonnet and shooting the driver in the face through the window was a little too much heroics for me when the officer in question could have been not risking his life while standing a few yards off shooting the tyres leaving the driver alive to face charges.

of course, I do not know the background and for all I know it could have been an extremely dangerous maniac with a shoot on sight flag or something.

tbh I thought that the driver trying to outrun them was trying to not hit them but I could be mistaken.

Sometimes I feel like doing that on the M8 in the morning.

What do I make of that video? Two fold.

At first, my right-wing fascist side thinks:

"fucker tried to ram police, had plenty time to pull over in a timely fashion, he didn't stop and then clearly there is a policeman on the hood of the car who's life *could* be in danger; so clearly the fucker deserves what he gets."

but my liberal mind thinks:

"the police could have done WAY more to stop him - stinger traps? box the car in? wait until the fuel runs low? ... and to get on the hood and unleash a clip seems a little extreme?"

There are other factors too - was he a known armed and dangerous criminal? In which case, they're probably doing the world a favour; or was he DUI or was it a routine stop that went wrong? In which case, then the police should have the book thrown at them.

Noone can pass judgment, other than stop when asked to and don't ram police in cars or otherwise. Kiss old bill on the ass, it's not worth it.

Me, I want to be on the side of the polieman, however I feel that the bloke didnt actually try to ram the copper the first time, however the copper decided he was going to shoot the bloke early on, and then went about it correctly to make sure he wasnt in trouble.

I dont think it was right if Im honest, though as pikey said its hard to judge from the comfort of a PC screen.

edit the dead bloke was a convicted car thief and a bit of a mini crime wave if what I read is true.

I would say the 'take him out' was more to do with the driving - the cops in the USA will quite happily send people into a spin, or use their cars as ramming machines.

I don't think they intended to shoot him but when the driver used his car and aimed at the other officers (do a google on the video name for news articles), they were quite right to shoot him. A car can be just as lethal as a gun.

I thought I heard gun shots the first time the police rammed the car. Regardless of whther the guy was bat shit mental with an AK-47, the police could have done a load more to subdue the guy. Like how about taking his car out for a start?

The news articles about it don't mention anything about that, but in the US they do have "assault with a deadly weapon", which includes cars, so IMO they were perfectly within in their rights to do so.
