I also refused to watch it.

But then again I refused to watch it from day one, it should be on the CBBC channel in all fairness, and no one comes close to Tom Baker.

Is it like Torchwood? Well the Torchwood toys sponsor Toon Attic, the kids Saturday morning show.

Now I aren't saying kids telly is rubbish, Spongebob is godlike, but it pisses me off that they market Doctor Who as adult telly (apart from the huge Dr Who section in Toys R Us I guess)

Have I annoyed anyone?

Probably. But not me, as I agree that Doctor Who is the TV version of Harry Potter - fir adukts it's the big rediscovering childhood thing. I will not go near Potter (I've not read ANY OF IT) but Doctor Who is a bit sharper and cleverererer. And still childish. And still fun.
Sorry. Oh and I am only 24 ;-)

I don't think they do market it as "adult telly". Family telly, certainly. Sometimes its squarely aimed at the kids (like the other night, or most RTD-penned episodes), other times it'll scare the crap out of the kids but have enough drama to keep the adults entertained (e.g. Blink, Family of Blood, Girl in The Fireplace). I keep watching because you usually get 2-3 episodes a series that are very, very good.

Personally I don't like Catherine Tate very much (her show got right on my tits), and I wasn't looking forward to this, but...she wasn't too bad. She's toned it down a bit. Having said that, I'll reserve judgment until I see her in a "serious" episode.

I thought Tate done well for her first real outing as assistant, she quietened her character down from the Christmas episode and i think she will do better as the series goes on

I like the fact that it wont be the usual doctor and assistant falling in love, this one seems like he will just have a friend which he needs as he is still hurting from losing Rose.

And yes that was Rose you saw when Tate dropped the keys in the bin. Rose is coming back and will be the assistant in the next series. I cant wait to see all the assistants in one episode too, that will be fun. Even Jack too haha

Oh did anyone watch Torchwood? I was shocked

Well all I can say is that all the assistants since Bille Piper left have make her look good.

Anyway, thats not the real problem. First episode was just shit Catherine Tate or not.

Well, i liked her, but i've never seen this Catty Tater before. She can be a bit annoying at times, but mostly, she just reminds me of the more old school doctor who companions.

Then again, that Rose character is just absolutely superb so, can't beat her with anything.

Oh and thanks for all who were talking about other series here without spoiler tags...

I think Catherine Tate on Dr. Who is a brilliant idea. Fantastic.

I can see where they're going with this, it's obviously a new initiative to purge all the shite in the BBC schedules into one easily missable, 50-minute Saturday evening time-slot.

I can't wait until the show centres around Walford, where each week the Dr and Miss Tate find themselves having to save humanity by finding future West End flash-in-the-pans while defeating evil ballroom dancing celebrities. All with a little help from friends Jonathan Ross & Graham Norton.

so 2nd episode what ya think? i liked it it wasnt meant as a gag fest and didnt come off as one and i think shes the first of the 3 companions of the new doctor to actually understand the ramifications of the decisions he has to make

on a side note it may be really really geeky but i love the music at the end does it piss anyone else off that, that prat talks over it!

I didn't mind her in the first ep, but I just want to kill her now, she was so fucking annoying in that episode.

Other than that it was a pretty decent ep, the idea of the ramifications of his actions was quite good.

I am afraid that I hated Freema. (I am a Rose lover, who is not good with change)

But Mrs Tate is doing my head in too. Its all the exaggerated stuff. She is just so painfully OTT.:kissit:

When she is quiet/crying/gentle I think she is actually a good actress.

Its just all the shouting and all the 'comedy' one- liners (like the 'DONT YOU DARE' stuff when she was about to get stabbed by the red ladies tonight)

Grrrrrrrr. Such a shame. It would be ok if she could move away from all the hysterics, as she does provide a good insight into the Dr's character and I do like the fact she is not a love interest like all the others.

:m00:

What did you make of the Rose disappearing bit in episode1?

Personally I liked the Welsh bits ("There's Lovely"). Although wouldn't they have come across as German?

Second episode, hmm, she's still annoying but in that reasonably annoying way.

I concentrate on the doctor so much anyway, that i don't really notice the sidekicks :D

I like her, not as much as Rosie dearest though, she was just absolutely brilliant, and hopefully she will come back.

Poor Toh does find it hard to keep up sometimes

I noticed your post about her coming back in next series, but nothing is for granted. Or is there some actual confirmation? Would be nice to get a link or some such, and not just your word.
