Yay. Nice and thick splattering in Kent. I'm not even trying to get to work. Its been going for at least 2 hours and there is another 2 hours of it to come.

there's been a national weather alert given out here in holland. they're expecting the worst, it seems.

(the worst being three inches of snow, enough to bring the country grinding to a halt)

Snowed for about 3 hours here from 4am. Maybe 4-5cm of it (not been out to check yet). The area across the road, grass then woods, looks very pretty .

I spent about 15 mins getting my car defrosted this morning, started to drive off up the hill/slop to turn around and got fuck all traction. Managed to just about reach the turning point. I started to head down the road to work and thought I'd try out the brakes and nearly slid into the neighbour's car.

So I just rolled it onto the clear patch it had just been parked on and came back inside.

It's mostly melted into slush now but apparently it's going to be around -2 or so tonight so it'll be nice and icey in the morning!

But really you live in a big empty country where the UK (particularly the South East) has massive population density - our transport network is already on the edge of overload so anything can cause it to grind to a halt.

You've got the infrastructure in place to deal with and people are used to it, we get this once a year at most.

It has to be said that, from what I've seen, the trains are running better than expected. I'd say about 1 in 20 services has been cancelled to/from/through New Street when I've been through these past 2 days. Obviously it sucks if you were supposed to be on one of those trains, but I've mostly just seen delays (not much over 15 mins though).

It looked a lot worse than I expected when I walked in this evening because the queue for the ticket counters was reaching the front doors (A Very Long Way (TM) for people who don't know the station) but I only had to wait 5 mins longer than I thought for the train.

45 min drive home from work took 2 hours.

M42 and M6 were both completely coated. At rush hour. Madness.

I'm talking 40 miles an hour max on the motorway to prevent death. Yet there were still some driving retards doing around 70 past me.
