I would like to know other peoples views on snipers are they just campers or are they good players .D u think they spoil games like cod or mohaa or make them better , the choice is yours.Do we need sniper free servers.?they have sniper only so why not sniper free.

I don't mind a few snipers but I don't like playing a team full of them. I've come to this game from rtcw/et which seems to have the best pace for me. Not too quick but not as slow as this. In rtcw you have snipers (bloody good one's sometimes) but there's always a way to counter so you're not spending a whole game being killed without a fight. I've spent 5 or 6 games on huntgen ( or whatever) being killed no matter where I tried to attack from I was killed. Of course I got a few kills on the last round I played due to switching to sniper myself but sniping isn't my cup of tea. I'm a bit of a rambo player, as in I tend to charge head-long into fire-fights. This game has tempered my urges a bit :)p) but I still like to attack rather than defend.

I've seen some very good snipers on occasion, who clearly specialise in it, and that's fine imo. Every good squad should have a sniper. Unfortunately tho, the one-shot-kill is too tempting for most newbies to ignore and you therefore end up with whole teams consisting of only snipers. It's really annoying to play against this, but if you and your team work cleverly, snipers arent that much of a problem.
I'm tempted every time I play to retaliate with anti-sniper spam comments, but usually hold back (unless I've been drinking ;)) as it's much more satisfying to take the snipers out with a machine gun or regular rifle ...... or even better, a whack over the head with the butt of your pistol :D
I've changed my mind now tbh - I don't think the servers should stop or limit snipers personally.

I dislike most snipers with a passion. Some are very skilled, but most just lie in a bush and daren't come out in fear of being taken down with a talented run and fire player.

Sniping is fun but only in single player. I find it's a little boring sat there, while everyone else sits there and no-one ever makes a move.

I do play the odd sniper war on Parlov though ;)

I hate snipers, 1 per team is ok with me, but when 4+ ppl go one, it totaly ruins the fun.

run and shoot = spray and pray imo. And i'm not a sniper.

Thing is, the recoil isn't good enough to warrant any sort of decent aim. It's far too easy to hold down full auto and run about like a spaz killing everyone.

The Thompson and the PPSh are very guilty of that. I'd be quite happy if some of the realism was lost to make the weapons a bit more fun to play against.

I dissagree on that one. At least with it as realistic you know where you stand, and it certainly obviates the yawn-a-rama cs omg reg disappearing bullet syndrome :)
Must say i think its perfect inthat respect.
Btw, I was playing on a server today with Pools Realism Mod on it, in which you can limit the players to say, 2 snipers, 3 smgs, 2 machine guns and unlimited Rifles. Oh plus one grenade each .
It works, it makes the game far more fun too.
Can we have this please ?

ill certainly talk to mikec about it when i get chance to talk to him throddy,but i seem to remember something awhile ago about "unofficial mods" not being allowed onto GAME.net servers
(allthough i could be wrong)


we will probably want to try out the mod on our server be we reach a decision though so it might take a few days

Oo that does sound good :) It would be nice to limit certain classes.

Aren't most mods unofficial? I know bani mod started off unofficial but because everyone (and their dog) used it splash damage agreed to give bani some of the source code (or api or whatever) to develop on ET.

By definition i would have thought all mods were unofficial ,but there you go.
To be honest I would have thought this mod would suit Search and Destroy or Retreival best, and as game.net presently haven't got a public server for either of these mods its possibly not important :(
Go on man, get rid of BEL or TDM and give us a S&D or CTF (oops sorry , Retreival) server ! If there was a game server I'd probably be on it most days.
Maybe thats a reason for NOT having one of course :)

I find most of the CoD MP maps have enough routes around the map that you can usually sneak behind or past camping snipers.

It's probably only that Hurtgen map (big snowy one?) where they
get irritating. That map needs an underground tunnel system to provide an alternative killing ground for those who get bored of freezing their doodads off lying in the snow.

if someone can give me a link to this mod mikec and i will have a look at it,then maybe just maybe we will see about having it put on servers ;)

Polls Realism Mod
1.= Gives server admins the ability too turn off crosshair, compass indicators, basically all hud options for clients.
3.= Enables ability for server admin too turn on and off kill-cam.
2.= Makes dramatic changes too weapon damages.
3.= Makes grendaes cookable with a 5 second fuse.
4.= Enables a weapon limiter for all weapons.
5.= Enables a bleeding mod.
6.= Disables Healthpacks.
7.= Makes it so no Sniper rifles are not dropped after a player is killed(done so to work with weapon limiter better)
8.= Ability to make players switch teams via rcon.
9.= Kar98 has disabled partial reload.(couldnt happen in real life, cant happen here)

-Disabling of HUD:
This gives server admins the ability too disable Crosshairs, Compass, Avatars, Friendly Names, everything in a clients HUD. This adds big time too realism. Most likely people will not use all ofthese, but if they were wanting to do it, this mod would be an ultimate realism mod.

-Kill Cam:
The ability too turn on and off kill cam is now an option. Reasons for this is that in tactical play, kill cam ruins it because it shows you exactly where your killer is/was, which makes them have too move, so no stealh work or "camping" can take place, which is basically what tactical play is all about.

-Weapon Damage Changes:
One shot to the head is a kill, one shot to upper torso is a kill, 2 shots to lower torso is a kill. Limb shots vary for damage. Basically, this mod bucks up the "punch" on weapons for CoD.

-Cook Nades:
If you hold down the fire button with a grenade out, it will begin cooking the grenade with a 5 second fuse, so if after 4 seconds your still holding the grenade, best throw it and duck cause if you dont, your toast.

-Weapon Limiter:
Makes it so Server admins can choose how many weapons are available too each teams. Stock is... 1 sni[per per team, unlimited rifles per team, 6 allies smg's, 10 axis smg's, 2 mg's per team. You can do this through rcon while on the server instead of having to go through the cfg.

-Bleeding Mod:
When a players health is dropped down too 40%, they begin too bleed 5% health, once every 5 seconds till their health is dropped too 1%.

-Health Packs:
They are now disabled, they do not drop when a player is killed. In real combat a player does'nt have the ability too go to a dead ally or foe too get health from a magic box, neither does this MOD.

-Weapon Drops:
Reason snipers can no longer be dropped is becauuse for snipers, you can pick them up from a dead player, even if the weapon limiter is enabled, and we want too keep it srict too one per side. Pistols is because with the one primary weapon, if they were dropped, you could run around with two pistols.

-Switching Teams:

-Forcing clients too switch team cvars:
"g_switchteam"
This is a variable that acts as a command to force a player to switch
teams. Use "status" (or for remote access, "rcon status") to get the
client ID number of the player, then use console to set this variable
to their ID.

Example: \set g_switchteam 3
This will cause the player number 3 to switch sides.

NOTE: Setting g_switchteam to -1 will cause ALL players to switch
sides... very useful for matches.

-Known Glitch's/Bug's:
-Weapon Limiter
-Only glitch's is that when a match starts, during the grace period, if someone chooses another wep, the one they had (ie snipers) becomes available to however many choose it. This is very uncommon, and I am sure you will almost not need too worry about it, but I have included a .cfg file in this .zip file, too basically show you how too turn the grace period too zero. Use the .cfg file I have, just re-do some things like server name n' such...

-Also, when a large amount of people are on the server,we have found that you can hit reload and the animation works, even if you have a full clip... dunno what that is, but it's nothing too worry about ;)
Doesn't look like the best Mod in the world to be honest.

I meant that it does more than limit the number of sniper rifles etc. The realistic damage would change the game far more than I would want to see.

If I had the first clue how to mod CoD, I'd write one myself. Feel free to link me up.;)

well ill need to talk to mike-c about it but i think we could maybe use some of it and leave other stuff out, ill have to wait till i have spoke to him before i say any more ;)
